Members of the local community are being invited to benefit from free sports massage and injury treatment sessions at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), as student-led clinics prepare to return this month.

Run on the University’s Carmarthen campus, the clinics are delivered by students studying Sport and Exercise Therapy, offering professional-quality treatments to the public while gaining essential hands-on experience as part of their degree.

All sessions are overseen by qualified tutors, ensuring a safe, supportive, and professional environment for every client.

Open not only to staff and students but also to members of the public, the initiative has been praised for making accessible, effective treatment available to those who may not otherwise seek support.

The clinics provide both soft tissue massage and injury assessment sessions, supporting people with everything from general aches and pains to more specific injuries, as well as improving overall wellbeing.

Sam Holland One student involved in delivering the sessions said the experience has been invaluable:

“Working in the clinic has been such a positive experience. It’s given me the opportunity to work with real clients from the local community, build my confidence, and develop practical skills that I’ll use in my future career. Seeing the difference the treatments can make to people is incredibly rewarding.”

Local residents who have attended the sessions have also spoken highly of the service.  Richard Thomas commented:

“I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but the sessions have been excellent. The students are professional and really take the time to understand what’s causing discomfort. I’ve felt a real improvement, and it’s great to have something like this available locally.”

Siân Bowen, Sport & Exercise Therapy Lecturer at UWTSD, highlighted the dual benefit of the initiative:

“These clinics are incredibly valuable for our students, giving them real-world experience in a supportive environment. At the same time, they provide an important service to the local community, offering high-quality treatment that is accessible to everyone, not just those involved in sport.”

The clinics will resume in October and will run at the following times:

  • Soft tissue massage: date TBC
  • Sports injury clinics: Monday 12-1pm / Thursday 3-5pm

All sessions are free of charge.

Appointments can be booked via the GloFox app (for campus gym members) or by emailing sian.bowen@uwtsd.ac.uk.

With demand expected to be high, early booking is encouraged.
