Royal Institute of Philosophy and Local Partners - UWTSD and 4theRegion - present ‘Hot Potato Talks: Growing Thought with Growing Food’
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), in partnership with the Royal Institute of Philosophy and local community partners, will host a special Hot Potato Talks event titled “Growing Thought with Growing Food” at Clase Primary School in Swansea on Friday 24 April 2026.
The event will bring together children, educators, researchers, and community members to explore the powerful connection between growing food and nurturing healthy minds.
Part of UWTSD’s ongoing collaboration with the Royal Institute of Philosophy, the Hot Potato Talks series encourages thoughtful discussion about the role food plays in our lives, communities, and wellbeing. Previous events in the series have brought together growers, philosophers, and members of the public to reflect on the social, ethical, and cultural value of food.
Hosted at Clase Primary School, this year’s event will place children at the heart of the conversation, highlighting how growing food in schools can support wellbeing, learning, and community engagement.
The event will feature contributions from Jessie Kidd, Emma North, and Eva, alongside pupils from Clase Primary School. Together they will share experiences and insights about how school gardens and food-growing projects can inspire curiosity, encourage healthy eating, and support emotional wellbeing.
“Growing Thought with Growing Food explores the vital connection between cultivating food and cultivating healthy minds,” event organiser Dr Rebekah Humphreys explained. “By bringing together children, educators and experts, we hope to spark meaningful conversations about the importance of food, wellbeing, and the environment.”
The event forms part of the wider programme of philosophy and public engagement activities supported by UWTSD, which aim to bring philosophical thinking into communities and everyday experiences. These initiatives create opportunities for people of all ages to explore important questions and ideas together.
Following the talks, attendees will be invited to continue the conversation over lunch and networking, creating space for community members, educators, and researchers to connect and share ideas.
Places for the event are limited and must be booked in advance.
