The University of Wales Trinity Saint David UWTSD) is delighted to announce that we have appointed Chief Executive Officer of Birmingham Mind, Helen Wadley, as an Honorary Professor of Practice.

This appointment reflects the growing and purposeful partnership between the University’s Birmingham campus and Birmingham Mind which stems from a mutual committed to strengthening health and educational outcomes for people and communities across Birmingham.  It is an important milestone in deepening collaboration between education and the voluntary sector, helping to drive meaningful change in mental health and wellbeing across the region.

The title of ‘Professor of Practice’ is awarded to recognise individual’s academic and professional distinction in areas which are aligned with the strategic intentions of the university.

The collaboration between the University and Birmingham Mind will create new opportunities to connect academic research, lived experience and frontline practice through:

  • stronger collaboration between the voluntary and community sector and academia
  • the development of future health and social care leaders
  • evidence-informed approaches to tackling health inequalities
  • amplifying lived experience within learning, research and service design.

Dr John Deane, Dean of the UWTSD  Birmingham Campus expressed his delight at having Helen Wadley as Honorary Professor of Practice. He said ‘Professor Wadley brings a wealth of experience of Mental Health Services across the region and nationally that will be of great benefit to our students and staff on a multitude of levels, including the development of employability opportunities, building networks and developing live projects.”

Professor Helen Wadley added:

“I’m really excited about the opportunities this creates, not just for me personally, but for Birmingham Mind, our partners and the communities we serve. It’s another step in ensuring that the expertise and impact of the voluntary and community sector is recognised, valued and embedded in how we shape healthier futures.”
