UWTSD staff member takes on extraordinary swimming challenge for charity
Paul Osborne, Head of Data Protection at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), is preparing to take on an extraordinary challenge to raise money for Maggie’s at Singleton Hospital in Swansea.

Paul will attempt to swim the three largest lakes in England’s Lake District in a single day, covering a total distance of 23 miles. His route will take him from Ullswater (7 miles) to Lake Windermere (11 miles) and finally to Coniston Water (5 miles). To put this into perspective, this is further than swimming the English Channel (approximately 21 miles).
Under the expert supervision of Q Swim, Paul is aiming to complete the challenge in under 14 hours, weather permitting. He is taking on this incredible feat to raise money Maggie’s at Singleton Hospital in Swansea and in memory of his mother, who recently passed away and was a lifelong supporter of his swimming journey.
Paul shared his thoughts on the challenge:
“This is both a personal and physical challenge for me, but it’s also a way I can give something back to a fantastic charity. Maggie’s provides incredible support to those affected by cancer, and I hope to raise as much as possible to help their vital work. It’s also in memory of my Mum, who sadly passed away very recently and who supported me as a young competitive Club swimmer and throughout my (ongoing) swimming career - she was always my biggest fan. It’s going to be tough, but I’m looking forward to the adventure and the opportunity to push myself to the limit.”
