UWTSD Strengthens Longstanding Partnership with Wuhan University of Technology During Senior Leadership Visit
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) was delighted to welcome a senior delegation from Wuhan University of Technology (WUT) to its Swansea campus on 13 October 2026, reaffirming a longstanding partnership that has supported academic collaboration between the two universities for more than two decades.
The delegation was led by Professor Wang Fazhou, President of Wuhan University of Technology, on his first official visit to UWTSD. The visit provided an important opportunity for senior leaders from both institutions to reflect on the achievements of their partnership and discuss opportunities for its continued development.
The delegation was welcomed by Professor Elwen Evans, KC, Vice-Chancellor of UWTSD, alongside Peter Mannion, Chief Operating Officer, and senior academic colleagues.
The visit followed Professor Evans’s visit to Wuhan University of Technology in 2025, reflecting the close institutional relationship and continued commitment to strengthening educational links between Wales and China.
Over the past two decades, UWTSD and WUT have developed a strong foundation for academic cooperation, particularly through transnational education. The partnership has created opportunities for students in China to benefit from international approaches to teaching and learning, while supporting academic exchange and collaboration between colleagues at both institutions.
During the visit, discussions focused on the continued development of existing academic programmes, opportunities for further collaboration and the importance of delivering high-quality international education.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to recognise the establishment of Qihang International College at WUT, an important development in the University’s approach to international education and future academic partnerships.
Professor Elwen Evans, KC, Vice-Chancellor at UWTSD, said:
“The partnership between UWTSD and Wuhan University of Technology has developed over more than two decades, and we greatly value the trust and commitment that have sustained our collaboration throughout this time.
“President Wang’s visit provides an important opportunity to build on this strong foundation and consider how our universities can continue working together to deliver high-quality education and create new opportunities for students and academic colleagues.”
We look forward to strengthening our partnership further and supporting its continued development in the years ahead.”
The visit reflects UWTSD’s ongoing commitment to developing meaningful international partnerships, supporting academic excellence and creating opportunities for students to benefit from international education and collaboration.
