University of Wales Trinity Saint David Tourism and Events Level 4 Students have worked on the planning and delivery of the groundbreaking House Party Swansea Arena.

Inside Swansea Arena with a band on the stage and the audience up and dancing.

The event, organised by James Morgan as part of the UWTSD Arena Partnership, supported Music Venue Trust across Swansea & West Wales and enabled a group of bands under the age of 26 to perform for the first time at a major venue.

The Level 4 Students have been based 1 day a week at the Arena since they started at University in September. During this time they have been working with James and the Arena Events Team as part of the practical element of their Events Experience and Placement Modules.

This has enabled the Events students to gain practical industry experience and events tech understanding from the outset of their studies and support their professional and career development.

The students have gained vital backstage and operational experiences at music events, shows and conferences. This has been supported by specialist sessions linked to marketing, events production, and planning for them to experience being at the heart of a major events venue.

Last weekend saw the event come together with the students being able to put all their academic studies, practical learning and management understanding into action.

Last Friday the students were involved in the production day where they played an important role in the event set up, sound checks and rehearsals.

This culminated with the event on Saturday where the students worked across all areas - from being part of the Event Day Briefing and final Event set up, to band & promoter liaison, organising dressing rooms, VIP, Merchadinsing, coordinating & supporting the Creative Industry Day & Workshops, Meet & Greet, & experiencing all areas of front & back of house Events Operations.

In addition the students were able to work closely with Level 6 Student Sam who was Venue Safety Officer for the Event.

Jacqui Jones said: “It was a brilliant start to Industry Week for the Level 4 Tourism & Events Students. They had a rest day before they were back in action on Monday and Tuesday supporting the Level 6 Students who are organising the Award Winning ITT Future You Wales Conference and Careers Fair also at Swansea Arena!

A massive thank you to James, Lisa Mart, Sophie Humphreys, Joe Bayliss and the team at Swansea Arena and Debbie Jenkins for all the support & opportunities they have given the students across the project.
