The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) continues to lead the way in providing hands-on, industry-focused learning experiences for its Tourism and Events students. Following the resounding success of ITT Future You Wales on February 11, this student-led initiative has demonstrated the transformative impact of real-world event management opportunities.

Working in partnership with The Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) and Swansea Building Society Arena, six Level 6 students, dubbed the Super Six, designed, organised, and delivered an outstanding event, attracting nearly 600 attendees. The event served as a high-impact showcase of careers in Travel, Tourism, Hospitality, and Events, providing students with invaluable experience in event planning, logistics, marketing, and professional networking.

Empowering the Next Generation of Event Leaders

At UWTSD, we believe in learning by doing. Our Tourism & Events teaching team prioritises live projects, industry collaborations, and placements to support students’ career development.

Programme Manager Jacqui Jones said: “The success of ITT Future You Wales is a testament to the incredible dedication and professionalism of our students, who took full ownership of the event from concept to execution.”

Building on this momentum, Level 4 and Level 5 students are now stepping up to lead their own real-life events:

  • Level 4 students, guided by their Level 5 peers, collaborated with James Morgan, Creative Learning Director at Swansea Arena, to deliver the highly anticipated House Party event on February 15.
  • Level 5 students will take charge of a month-long series of Live Events Projects, including: Student Ball, Cowboys & Cocktails Night, Global Food Festival.

All these events will be hosted at UWTSD’s Dylan Thomas Centre in Swansea, with expert guidance from lecturer Debbie Jenkins and additional collaboration with Jemma Smith and the Gastronomy students.

Industry Impact and Student Success

The impact of this initiative extends beyond UWTSD, inspiring both students and staff across institutions. Daniel, a lecturer from City of Bristol College, attended ITT Future You Wales with his students and described the event as:

“Inspiring students and staff to another level.”

Jacqui Jones added: “This initiative was made even more meaningful by the fact that it was advocated by a former City of Bristol College student, now excelling at UWTSD. The event’s professionalism and impact reinforce the university’s commitment to empowering students through experiential learning and industry engagement.”

Sinead Edwards Level 6  : “Planning and hosting the 2025 ITT Future You Wales with five of my fellow students was a milestone I’ll never forget. Seeing all our hard work come to life and receiving such positive feedback was beyond rewarding. Organising an event for 600 students was truly life-changing, and I am proud of what we accomplished together.  The experience has provided me with invaluable skills and industry insight that will shape my future.”

Nia Moore Level 5 : “My professional development has improved incredibly since starting my degree in Events & International Festivals Management. Helping to support events like House Party and also getting the opportunity to host my own events such as a Student Ball  and next year I will be hosting ITT Future You Wales. I have also benefited from overseas placement in Florida with Universal and I am excited to continue my development this summer on placement with Walt  Disney World in Florida!”

Looking Ahead: Exciting Times for UWTSD Students

With the success of ITT Future You Wales, the upcoming student-led events promise to be just as dynamic, giving students the opportunity to develop essential skills, gain hands-on experience, and make valuable industry connections.

This initiative underscores UWTSD’s mission: Transforming Education; Transforming Lives.
