The five-year strategy places culture at the centre of Swansea’s future development, highlighting the role of education, research, and collaboration in supporting economic growth, community wellbeing, and cultural vibrancy.

UWTSD offers a range of programmes that directly support the ambitions outlined within the strategy, including, Film, Media, Animation, Graphic Design, Photography, Music, Performing Arts, Cultural Heritage, Business and Marketing, Tourism and Events Management, and apprenticeship programmes that connect learners with employers across Wales.

The strategy’s focus on strengthening talent pathways through placements, mentoring, apprenticeships, and industry engagement reflects UWTSD’s longstanding commitment to providing students with real-world experience and strong employer connections.

The University also contributes to Swansea’s cultural and creative economy through research, innovation and partnerships with cultural organisations, businesses, and community groups, helping to create opportunities for students, graduates, and the wider region.

Dr Mark Cocks, Dean of the University’s Wales Institute for Science and Art said: “We warmly welcome Swansea’s Culture Strategy and its recognition of the important role that learning, skills and talent development play in supporting the city’s future prosperity. The ambitions set out in the strategy align closely with our commitment to transforming education and transforming lives.

“Through our programmes in the creative industries, digital media, performing arts, heritage, business, and tourism, we are helping students develop the skills, experience and industry connections needed to succeed and contribute to Swansea’s cultural and creative economy.

“We look forward to working with Swansea Council and partners across the city to support the delivery of the strategy, helping to nurture local talent, strengthen communities and create opportunities for future generations.”
