Denise Leonard
Background
Denise Leonard is an experienced outdoor practitioner with more than 25 years of experience working across the UK and overseas. Her career has taken her from delivering corporate management training to leading expedition-based programmes for some of society’s most at-risk youth, grounding her teaching in real-world practice.
She specialises in connecting theory with lived experience, supporting both home and international students throughout their academic journey. Denise manages applications for the CertHE and BA programmes, ensuring each student receives personal, supportive attention from day one.
Her research interests include gender parity in the sector and the vital role of the ‘Great Outdoors’ in promoting health and wellbeing. In addition, she facilitates a semester exchange programme with the University of South East Norway, broadening horizons for her students.
Above all, Denise seeks to inspire future practitioners by blending a diverse, global perspective with a passion for the transformative power of outdoor learning.
