What was your favourite thing about Swansea campus?
The photography resources are amazing, particularly the darkroom and film processing. Having access to these spaces allowed me to experiment with traditional techniques and alternative processes which is integral to my practice.
I also really appreciated the free printing facilities, which made it much easier to develop and test out work throughout the course.
Why did you choose UWTSD?
I have friends who completed this course a couple years before me. I would regularly attend the graduation shows before joining, so I got to see the varied, experimental work that was being produced by students.
The course’s reputation was also another factor. Seeing it was one of the best photography courses in in the UK, while being close to home seemed like the best decision for me.
What did you enjoy outside your studies?
Outside of university and aside from photography I enjoy film, reading and gaming. These all tend to inspire my creative work both visually and contextually.
I would occasionally attend film society screenings, which helped me find new films and narrative inspirations while connecting with other students that had similar interests.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
I would love to become a clinical photographer , but I still want to keeping making artwork. The whole external engagement module in our final year is based on this - having to write a graduate plan will be really helpful in staying on track when leaving uni.
The course also really encourages working with other artists and people from local communities which is great fornetworking and making connections.
What was your favourite thing about your course?
I would say the highlights of the course were the workshops from technicians where I was able to learn new techniques for experimentation and process.
I’d also say the final project. Being able to create a detailed project independently, using everything I’ve learnt from the last 3 years was very rewarding!
Would you recommend UWTSD and why?
I would absolutely recommend UWTSD and the Photography in the Arts course to others. The staff are so supportiveand always willing to offer advice, guidance and inspiration. They bring a range of experience to the course which really helped me develop my practice and professionalism.
The technicians are also amazing. They are always around to help and dedicate so much time supporting students.
Another thing I appreciated was the long opening hours and access to campus facilities which made it easier to balance my studies with other work commitments.
Overall, I’ve had a really positive experience at UWTSD and have felt supported throughout my time on the course.
