What is your favourite thing about Swansea campus?

My favourite aspect of the Swansea campus was the close-knit and supportive learning environment. It was large enough to provide excellent facilities and opportunities, but small enough that lecturers knew you personally and were genuinely invested in your success. The campus created a strong sense of community, making it easy to build friendships, collaborate with others, and access support whenever needed. It always felt like a place where students were encouraged to learn, grow, and succeed.

Why did you choose UWTSD?

I chose UWTSD because it offered a practical, industry-focused approach to computing and technology. The courses combined academic learning with real-world application, which appealed to me as someone who wanted to build a career in technology rather than simply study it. The accessible campus, supportive lecturers, and strong reputation for producing employable graduates made it the right choice for me.

What do you enjoy outside your studies?

Outside my studies, I enjoyed keeping active and spending time outdoors. I have always had a strong interest in fitness and martial arts, having been a Karate instructor for many years. I also enjoy hiking, exploring new places, learning about science, technology, and the natural world. These interests helped me maintain a healthy balance alongside my academic work and continue to be an important part of my life today. The outdoors is still very important to me and I now go Skiing regularly and walk the mountains with my German Shepherd Dog.

What are you doing now, how did you get to where you are and how has your course helped you in your career?

Today, I work as a Digital Transformation Consultant with Fujitsu, helping organisations modernise services, adopt emerging technologies, improve customer experience, and embrace innovation. My career has progressed through a variety of technical, operational, management, and consultancy roles across Fujitsu, DVLA, Alert Logic, Rackspace, and Fujitsu again. My degree provided the technical foundations that enabled me to begin my career in IT, but it also taught me how to analyse problems, think critically, communicate effectively, and continually learn. These skills have been just as important as the technical knowledge itself. Throughout my career, the ability to understand both technology and business outcomes has helped me move from technical specialist roles into leadership, consultancy, innovation, and digital transformation.

What is your favourite thing about your course?

What I enjoyed most was the balance between theory and practical application. The course didn’t simply teach technology; it taught how technology solves real-world problems. The networking and technical modules provided a strong foundation, while project work encouraged problem solving, teamwork, and independent thinking. Looking back, many of the skills I use daily in consulting today, such as analysis, communication, and structured problem-solving, originated during my studies.

Would you recommend UWTSD and why?

Absolutely. UWTSD provides a supportive environment where students are encouraged to develop both professionally and personally. The lecturers genuinely care about student success, and the courses are designed to prepare students for real careers rather than simply academic achievement. The skills, confidence, and opportunities I gained during my time there helped establish the foundations of a career that has now spanned more than two decades, across Operations Management, Enterprise Management, Account Management,  technology and digital transformation
