Carmarthen Graduate Achieves First-Class Honours in Digital Media Production Degree
A University of Wales Trinity Saint David graduate Kimberley Skeels is celebrating achieving a First-Class Honours degree in BA Digital Media Production at the University’s Carmarthen campus, marking the end of a journey driven by creativity, passion, and a love for film and photography.
Kimberley’s achievement highlights the success of UWTSD’s Digital Media Production programme, which combines academic study with practical industry experience, giving students the opportunity to develop the creative and technical skills needed to pursue careers in the media industry.
Based at UWTSD’s Carmarthen campus, the course benefits from its location within a thriving creative community, alongside Canolfan S4C Yr Egin, home of the Welsh national broadcaster, as well as a number of independent production companies and creative businesses.
Students have access to professional facilities including the Samsung immersive screening room, green screen studios, and high-spec Apple Mac editing suites, allowing them to gain experience using industry-standard equipment throughout their studies.
Programme Manager Dr Brett Aggersberg said:
“Everywhere is a classroom within our creative community. Our aim is to develop a creative and employable workforce by giving students opportunities to apply what they learn in real-world situations. Graduates like Kimberley leave us with not only a degree, but valuable experience and a strong professional portfolio.”
For Kimberley, the journey into digital media began with a lifelong love of creativity.
“Since I was young, I have always loved being creative. That passion has taken me on a journey where I have explored many different creative outlets, all of which I have thoroughly enjoyed, ultimately leading me to discover my passion for film and photography.”
Kimberley chose to study Digital Media Production because it offered the chance to explore different areas of creativity while building practical skills across filmmaking, photography, and digital production.
Throughout her three years at UWTSD, Kimberley took every opportunity to gain industry experience. One of the highlights of her studies was travelling to Canada to help create a documentary, where she developed new filmmaking techniques while experiencing different cultures and working in a new environment.
The experience had a lasting impact on her final-year independent project, where she created a documentary exploring cold water swimming and its positive impact on mental health and wellbeing.
Kimberley also worked with the International Media Festival of Wales and the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival, creating promotional content and photographing the events. One of her proudest moments was seeing a film she had worked on selected for screening at both festivals.
Reflecting on her time at UWTSD, Kimberley said:
“This course, along with the incredible staff, has provided me with endless support, encouragement, and opportunities that have truly helped turn my dream into a reality.
“I am honoured to be finishing this chapter with a First Class Honours degree. I have never considered myself particularly academic, struggling at times with being dyslexic, so achieving this is something I am incredibly proud of.”
Dr Brett Aggersberg praised Kimberley’s dedication and creativity:

As she moves forward, Kimberley is excited to continue developing her skills and working on future creative projects.
