The Dynevor Building at UWTSD’s Swansea College of Art is renowned as a vibrant hub of creativity, housing many of the university’s art and design undergraduate and post graduate courses. Now, the spotlight turns to the exceptional skills of its technician demonstrators, as they present an exhibition showcasing their artistry, expertise, and passion for making.

Featuring work by Morwenna Chapman, Cameron Ridgeway, Lyndon Davies, Dafydd Williams, and Natasha John, the exhibition, which can be viewed until October 3, highlights the diverse technical disciplines that support students daily in their creative journeys. From linocut, woodcut, and screen printing to photography using wet plate collodion and experimental darkroom practices, and from beach-found objects recast in high-fired porcelain slip to digital and analogue illustration, the exhibition celebrates the precision and innovation that underpin these crafts.

Katherine Clewett, Curator and Programme Manager for Foundation Art and Design, said:

“By bringing these works to the forefront, we hope to inspire our new students and current cohort to explore the possibilities within their own creative practices. The diversity of techniques on display reflects the boundless opportunities for exploration and experimentation that are available in this building, and we encourage visitors to reflect on the potential for growth, innovation, and collaboration that resides here.”

The exhibition not only celebrates the remarkable talents of the technical staff but also demonstrates the extraordinary potential of the facilities and resources available at Swansea College of Art.

Katherine added: “This exhibition is a tribute to the technical staff. It is a celebration of their work, and a reminder that the pursuit of craftsmanship is ever-evolving, always pushing the boundaries of what is possible.”

Caroline Thraves, Academic Director Art & Media added: “Through this exhibition, Swansea College of Art honours the expertise of the technician demonstrators who play a vital role in nurturing the next generation of artists and designers, showcasing not only what is taught at Dynevor but also what is made possible when technical mastery meets creative vision.”
