Engineering students recognised with prestigious industry awards at Graduation 2026
Outstanding engineering students from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) have been recognised with a series of prestigious industry awards as they celebrated their graduation at Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall.
At the Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday 15 July, graduates from across the Engineering Discipline received qualifications ranging from Higher National Diplomas and bachelor’s degrees to master’s degrees. Four students were also honoured for their exceptional academic achievement, commitment, and professional development.
The South Wales Institute of Engineers Educational Trust (SWIEET) Student Merit Awards were presented to Alex White (BEng Automotive Engineering), Tamzin Cooper (BEng Motorsport Engineering) and Benjamin Hilton (BEng Motorcycle Engineering). The awards recognise students who have demonstrated academic excellence, a strong work ethic and a commitment to both personal and professional development. Each recipient received a certificate and cash prize.
Tamzin Cooper also received the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Frederic Barnes Waldron Best Student Award, presented by UWTSD Vice-Chancellor Professor Elwen Evans during the Graduation Ceremony. The award recognises the highest-achieving undergraduate studying on an IMechE-accredited programme who is also an Affiliate Member of the Institution.
Earlier this year, BEng Motorsport Engineering student Nathan Evans received the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Best Student Project Award at the School of Engineering End-of-Year Show for his research project investigating the use of carbon fibre tubes for structural applications.

We are incredibly proud of all of our graduates and delighted to see several students receive additional recognition through these prestigious industry awards.
“Alex, Tamzin, Benjamin and Nathan have each demonstrated exceptional commitment, academic excellence, and a passion for engineering throughout their studies. Their achievements reflect not only their individual talent and determination but also the strong links we continue to build with professional institutions and industry partners.
