Finley Jones is continuing to excel both academically and on the rugby field after being selected for the Brython Thunder squad for the upcoming season while studying Sports and Exercise Therapy at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD).

Expressing her excitement, Finley said:
“I am very excited to be selected for Brython Thunder this year. This is my third season being involved with them and I’m really grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a strong group.”

Brython Thunder compete in the highly competitive Celtic Challenge, a cross-nations league featuring two Welsh teams, two Irish teams, and two Scottish teams. The competition brings together elite talent from across the Celtic nations, with all teams competing for the Celtic Challenge title.

Alongside her rugby commitments, Finley is currently in her second year studying Sports and Exercise Therapy at UWTSD. She chose the course due to its accreditation with the Society of Sports Therapists (SST) and the smaller class sizes, which allow for more personalised, one-to-one learning.

Finley added:
“My favourite part of the course is definitely the rehabilitation side. Having had some bad injuries myself, it’s really interesting and rewarding to help others get back to playing or functioning without injury. Studying this course while playing rugby definitely helps, as the two complement each other really well.”

The  Sports and Exercise Therapy degree offers early hands-on experience, with placements and clinical work beginning within the first few months of study. Graduates qualify as accredited sports therapists after three years, without the need for a master’s degree.

“I would definitely recommend the course. The support from lecturers is excellent, and the practical experience you gain early on is invaluable.”

Gareth Potter, UWTSD’s Head of Rugby said:

“Finley is an outstanding example of a dedicated young sportsperson that works so hard to achieve her goals on and off the pitch. She has overcome a number of injuries over the last few years to become a key part of the Brython Thunder squad. She is also a very popular member of the UWTSD Rugby programme where she is gaining first-hand experience as a student physiotherapist with the University’s Men’s team. I’m sure she has a bright future as both a player and physio.”

Looking ahead, Finley hopes to complete her degree and build a career within the sporting environment, using her experience as a player to support and rehabilitate others.

“In the future, I’d love to work in sport and use both my academic learning and my experience as a player to help others reach their potential.”
