Gwenno Fôn Graduates from UWTSD and Stars in the 'Stad' television programme
Gwenno Fôn, the young actress from Caernarfon, is celebrating an important milestone in her career as she graduates from the BA Perfformio Degree at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), as well as starring in the popular drama series STAD on S4C.
Gwenno, who has a love of the performing arts, has been acting, singing and dancing since she was a little girl. Discussing her journey, she said:
“When I saw the course at University of Wales Trinity Saint David, I knew straight away that this was where I wanted to study, to be able to do what I love every day, in the heart of the capital!”
Gwenno’s main reason for choosing the BA Performing Course was the fact that the course was offered. She added:
“It’s excellent to be able to study performing arts in an environment which is so supportive of the language and Welsh culture. This course offered an opportunity to develop acting, singing and dancing skills, which will be essential going forward into the professional world outside of education.
“I would recommend this course to anyone who is interested in the performing arts and wants to have valuable experiences in a creative, supportive and Welsh language environment.”
During her time at the University, Gwenno had a number of unforgettable experiences, including playing the role of Hermia in Breuddwyd Noswyl Ifan directed by Kira Bissex, and taking part in an Acting for Screen module on the set of Pobol y Cwm, which was a great opportunity to see how things work behind the camera in a professional production.
Gwenno said she received special support from course tutors while at the University.
“The tutors were fantastic and genuinely caring for the wellbeing and needs of each student. I had a lot of support from Elen Bowman in particular; she was always available to help, and make sure everything was okay in terms of the course and personally too.”
Angharad Lee, BA Perfformio Programme Manager at the Welsh Academy of Voice and Dramatic Arts, said:
“It is always a pleasure to celebrate the successes of our students, and Gwenno’s dedication and focus during her time with us has really paid off. We are proud that we have developed strong links with the industry and that we offer courses which meet professional standards. Our fantastic success rate with alumni, many of whom can now be seen on our screens on S4C and the BBC is testament to that commitment.”
As well as her academic success, Gwenno has also been making a name for herself on the small screen, where she is playing the role of Kimberleigh Rose in the drama series STAD, which is currently showing on S4C. She said:
“Kim faced a lot of challenges in the first series, and the second series goes even further. She is a complicated character who often deals with her problems by misbehaving, so there is quite a bit of drama and chaos wherever she is!”
Gwenno auditioned for the part when she was still at school and was able to balance her filming work with her studies. She added:
“The second series was filmed when I was studying in the university, and the university was extremely supportive. The tutors were flexible with my hours and gave extra support when needed – especially when I was preparing for filming scenes. That made balancing academic work and acting possible and successful.”
Gwenno has now moved back to her home in Caernarfon and teaches drama sessions to school children while continuing to develop her acting career. Her dream is to continue to develop her career as an actress, and she is looking forward to see where the next steps will lead her.
