BA Adventure Filmmaking and BA Digital Media Production students were given the opportunity to test the latest Nikon cameras and lenses, exploring cutting-edge technology used across professional photography and filmmaking industries. The session combined practical shooting experience with valuable insight into current industry practices, workflows, and career pathways.

Adding energy and movement to the day, final-year BA Outdoor Adventure Education students joined the workshop on their mountain bikes, providing dynamic subjects for both portrait and high-speed action photography. The collaboration created a vibrant, real-world shooting environment, allowing participants to experiment with autofocus tracking, burst modes, lens selection, and cinematic framing techniques in an outdoor setting.

Student Kim Skeels said:

“Having the opportunity to meet representatives from Nikon during their visit to the University of Wales Trinity Saint David was a truly valuable and inspiring experience. It gave me the chance to hear directly from professionals working within the industry. I am really looking forward to working with Nikon, as I believe this is a great opportunity for us as students to take part in a project that allows us to collaborate with a client such as Nikon, giving us real-world experience and insight into working with clients.

“The day itself was fantastic, and having the opportunity to try out some of Nikon’s equipment was both amazing and insightful.”

The event also welcomed students from Coleg Sir Gar, strengthening regional creative partnerships and offering a shared learning experience across institutions.

The session was delivered by Nikon industry specialists Bruno Murari and Jack Fieldhouse, who shared practical demonstrations and professional insights. The event was organised by Maja Zwolinska, Junior  Education Manager UK, and Dr Brett Aggersberg whose ongoing work continues to build meaningful opportunities between the University and leading creative technology brands.

Maja Zwolinska, from Nikon said:

“It was amazing to return to the University of Wales Trinity Saint David for a second year and spend time with another group of talented and motivated students. Bringing our latest Nikon mirrorless kit and giving them the chance to explore it through hands-on sessions is always a highlight, and it was inspiring to see how quickly they began thinking about new creative possibilities.

“As part of our continued partnership with the university, we’ve once again collaborated on a creative brief for students to complete as part of their curriculum. We’re proud to support them by sharing industry insight and providing access to the latest Nikon equipment so they can bring their ideas to life. Supporting emerging creatives is incredibly important to us, and initiatives like this allow students to gain practical experience with professional tools while developing their own visual voice. We’re really looking forward to seeing the results of their work and continuing to build on this collaboration in the future.”

Programme Manager for BA Adventure Filmmaking, Dr Brett Aggersberg said:

“This workshop forms part of an ongoing collaboration between the University and Nikon and Red Digital Cinema, ensuring students gain direct access to industry-standard equipment and expertise. By bridging academic study with professional practice, the partnership supports students in developing the technical confidence, creative ambition, and industry awareness needed for careers in adventure filmmaking, digital media production, and outdoor storytelling.

The day highlighted the strength of collaborative learning at Carmarthen, where creativity, technology, and adventure come together to prepare the next generation of visual storytellers.”
