International Journey Leads to First-Class Success at UWTSD

A Turkish-British student who moved to Wales to pursue her ambitions in the events industry is celebrating graduating with First Class Honours from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD). 

Ayda Bekisoglu, who was born and raised in Turkey before moving to the UK after finishing school, has graduated with a degree in Events and International Festivals Management.

Although her original plan had been to study in the Netherlands, Ayda’s journey took a different direction when she was offered a place at UWTSD. 

“I applied to several universities across the UK, and UWTSD accepted me based on my grades,” she said. “Although my plans changed, choosing to study in Wales turned out to be a fantastic opportunity.” 

Ayda chose International Festival and Event Management because it matched her ambition of becoming a major event coordinator and suited her strengths in communication, organisation, problem-solving and working with people. 

One of the highlights of her studies was gaining valuable industry experience at Swansea Building Society Arena, where she worked in the Food and Beverage department through the university’s partnership with the venue. 

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to work at the Arena,” she said. “It gave me hands-on experience and allowed me to learn from the wide range of events hosted there, which has been invaluable.” 

Like many students, Ayda faced personal challenges during her time at university, including experiences that affected her confidence and mental wellbeing. However, she says those challenges ultimately helped her become more resilient. 

“Looking back, I’ve grown as a person,” she said. “The challenges I faced made me stronger, more resilient and better prepared for the future.” 

Ayda encourages anyone with a passion for travel, meeting new people and working in fast-paced environments to consider studying International Festival and Event Management. 

“The course has helped me develop both personally and professionally,” she said. “It has strengthened my confidence, communication skills and understanding of the events industry.” 

Now graduating with First Class Honours, Ayda is looking forward to beginning her career in the events sector. 

“My goal is to secure a role within the events industry, gain experience and build a successful career doing something I’m truly passionate about.”
