UWTSD Appoints Lacanian Psychoanalyst and Interdisciplinary Scholar Tamara Dellutri as Professor of Practice
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) is pleased to announce the appointment of alumna Ms Tamara Dellutri, MA, LLM as Professor of Practice, recognising her international engagement as a Lacanian psychoanalyst, interdisciplinary scholar, and interlocutor with the arts. Her appointment will provide students with unique opportunities to engage directly with contemporary debates at the intersection of psychoanalysis, art practice, law, and artificial intelligence, enriching both teaching and research across disciplines.
The title of Professor of Practice is awarded to individuals who have achieved significant professional or academic distinction in fields aligned with the University’s strategic vision. Tamara’s appointment reflects both her international standing in psychoanalytic practice and her sustained engagement with questions of subjectivity, identity, health, law, and culture in the contemporary world. Tamara, who completed her studies at UWTSD’s Swansea College of Art, graduated with a first-class degree in Illustration, and Master in Contemporary Dialogues of Art (textiles) has recently obtained a LLM in Public Health and Law. She is currently undertaking postgraduate studies in Psychology.

Formed in the psychoanalytic tradition of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan, Tamara is a member of the International of the Forums: School of Psychoanalysis of the Lacanian Field (IF-EPFCL), a teaching member of Foro del Campo Lacaniano de México, and a founding member of Lacan/UK where she chairs seminars on psychoanalysis and culture in conversation with psychoanalysts and scholars working around the world.
She has held clinical and non-clinical seminars on psychoanalysis for a variety of audiences arounds the world which include, Israel, France, Mexico, China, Iran, Argentina, and Spain. She has recently collaborated as a guest lecturer with the master’s in clinical Practice in Psychoanalysis and Psychopathology at the University of Barcelona.
Tamara has a background in visual arts, critical theory, and British public health, and law, with a research focus on the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). Her current psychoanalytically oriented research examines how CRPD principles are upheld in the UK and what this reveal about unspoken assumptions and expectations on human subjectivity within and beyond the British judicial and penal systems.
Welcoming the appointment, Professor Sue Williams, Programme Manager of Fine Art: Studio Site & Context said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to establish an extensive and exciting research area that addresses the issues of AI versus the human subject and artist. I have followed Tamara’s work for many years, and I have seen Tamara’s thought-provoking engagement with the students during her visiting lectures. This is a timely moment to question the impact artificial intelligence may have on art practice, as well as to explore the relationship between psychoanalysis and art.”
“As a practising artist, I value the freedom to work between gaps, to navigate truths and untruths, and to trust intuition in a world increasingly shaped by technological systems. There must always be room for discussion.”
As part of her appointment, Tamara will deliver a public Professor of Practice [POP!] Lecture entitled Art, Love, Lust: On Humans and Thinking Machines, examining psychoanalytic concepts of transference love, in relation to artificial intelligence, art practice, and contemporary cultural life.
Caroline Thraves, Academic Director Art and Media said: “UWTSD is proud to welcome Tamara Dellutri back to the University in this new capacity, celebrating both her professional achievements and her continued contribution to intellectual and cultural life in Wales and beyond.”
The inaugural lecture takes place on Wednesday March 11 at 2.30pm at the University’s Reading Room in Swansea.
