The UWTSD Birmingham graduate with Ambitions to Improve Healthcare Services
Driven by a passion for improving health outcomes beyond individual patient care, Yashvi Sharma is graduating from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) Birmingham with an MSc Public Health and Social Care in Practice.
The 26-year-old healthcare professional from India has embraced the challenges of studying abroad, gaining valuable international experience and developing the skills needed to make a lasting impact across healthcare services and communities.
Yashvi Sharma, 25, originally from Vapi, India, chose to study at UWTSD Birmingham after completing a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy and developing a strong interest in public health. Inspired by her mother to pursue opportunities beyond her comfort zone, Yashvi moved to Birmingham to gain international experience and broaden her understanding of healthcare systems.
“The MSc Public Health and Social Care programme stood out to me because of its multidisciplinary approach and focus on both public health and social care,” said Yashvi. “It has helped me understand healthcare from a wider population and policy perspective, beyond individual patient care.”
During her studies, Yashvi developed advanced research, leadership and analytical skills while learning alongside students from a range of cultural and professional backgrounds.
One of the highlights of her degree was conducting research into quality improvement in stroke rehabilitation, examining the role of physiotherapists in Early Supported Discharge teams and their impact on patient outcomes.
Studying abroad brought challenges, including adapting to a new culture, living independently and balancing academic commitments. Yashvi credits the unwavering support of her family, particularly her mother and brother, for helping her succeed.
Now an HCPC-registered Physiotherapist, Yashvi hopes to build her career within the NHS and wider healthcare sector, combining her clinical expertise with her public health knowledge to contribute to rehabilitation services, community healthcare programmes and healthcare improvement initiatives.
She said: “Studying at UWTSD has been a life-changing experience. It has helped me grow professionally and personally, broadened my understanding of healthcare, and prepared me for the next stage of my career. I am grateful to my family, especially my mother, for encouraging me to pursue my dreams, and I look forward to using my knowledge and skills to make a positive difference in people’s lives.”
