Phoebe, from Bridgend, chose to study at UWTSD after completing her studies at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd, where she developed a passion for supporting young children and their development.

Although she applied through Clearing after considering her options following her exam results, she says the experience was straightforward and reassuring. She said:

“The Clearing process was much easier than I expected. The admissions team was friendly, helpful and answered all my questions. They guided me through every step, making the whole process straightforward and stress-free.”

Phoebe chose UWTSD because of its strong reputation, supportive learning environment and the practical focus of its Early Years degree, which offered the opportunity to combine academic learning with valuable real-world experience.

Throughout her studies, she embraced every opportunity to develop professionally and personally, aiming to build the confidence, knowledge and practical skills needed for a successful career working with children.

One of the highlights of the course was learning from experienced lecturers and collaborating with fellow students from a range of backgrounds. She added:

“The lecturers were always approachable and supportive. I really enjoyed the interactive learning activities and working alongside classmates with different experiences, which helped broaden my perspective. The campus had a welcoming atmosphere, and there were plenty of resources and support services available, making it a great environment for both studying and personal development.”

During her second year, Phoebe gained valuable professional experience by working ith an agency, giving her the opportunity to apply her learning in real-life settings with children.

“This experience allowed me to apply what I learned in the classroom to real-world situations and helped me develop valuable professional skills.”

Like many students, Phoebe balanced her studies alongside other commitments, developing strong organisation and time-management skills while making full use of the support available from lecturers and classmates.

Admission Tutor Glenda Tinney, said:

“It has been wonderful that Phoebe joined our course. In fact, we met Phoebe in one of our summer taster courses when she was in year 13, which planted the initial idea to her of the possibilities of study at UWTSD. She then took the step during clearing to join us. It has been a privilege to watch her development, confidence and skills in childhood and education develop and to see how she is planning her future career.  Da iawn, Phoebe, so glad you joined us and that we now see the positive outcomes of making that choice.”

Phoebe believes the course has prepared her well for the future.

“The course provides a strong combination of academic knowledge and practical experience. It has helped me become more confident, improve my communication and problem-solving skills, and given me a much clearer understanding of my career path.”

Looking ahead, Phoebe plans to gain experience working with young children before pursuing her long-term ambition of becoming a paediatric nurse.

“I’m passionate about making a positive difference in children’s lives. My dream is to become a paediatric nurse so I can provide care, support and encouragement to children and their families during some of the most important stages of their lives.”

Phoebe encourages anyone considering university through Clearing to take advantage of the opportunities available.

“I would absolutely recommend the course. The support from staff and the opportunities to gain practical experience make it an excellent choice for anyone who wants to develop both personally and professionally.”
