UWTSD Graduate Turns Passion for the Outdoors into a Career Behind the Camera
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) is celebrating the achievements of its latest graduates, including mature part-time student Dan Phillips, who has graduated with First-Class Honours from the BA Adventure Filmmaking degree at the University’s Carmarthen campus.
Over the last six years, Dan has combined his passion for the outdoors with filmmaking, developing the skills needed to capture stories from some of the most challenging environments. His journey through the course has taken him from filming along the Welsh coastline to producing work inspired by the landscapes, wildlife, and adventures that surround him.
Choosing to study part-time allowed Dan to complete his degree while balancing other commitments, making the course a perfect fit for his ambitions and lifestyle. During his time at UWTSD, he developed a strong understanding of filmmaking, from camera operation and editing to planning productions, managing risk, and working effectively in demanding outdoor conditions.
The BA Adventure Filmmaking degree encourages students to take their creative work beyond the studio, combining storytelling with practical outdoor experience. Dan quickly developed a reputation as a dedicated and capable filmmaker, demonstrating the resilience and attention to detail required when working in unpredictable environments.
Programme Manager Dr Brett Aggersberg said:

Throughout his studies, Dan has built an impressive portfolio of work and gained valuable industry experience through collaborations with companies and organisations. These opportunities have helped him establish a network within the creative sector and prepare for the next stage of his career.
With his combination of outdoor knowledge, technical filmmaking ability, and storytelling experience, Dan is looking forward to pursuing opportunities across documentary, commercial, and adventure filmmaking.
Reflecting on his graduation, Dan said:
“I’m really grateful to be graduating from UWTSD Adventure Filmmaking with First-Class Honours. Studying part-time at a university local to me was the only way I could have completed a degree, so this course was perfect.
“I leave with a far more complete understanding of media creation and much more confidence in myself and my abilities. I can’t thank the staff enough, on both the Adventure Filmmaking and Outdoor Adventure Education courses, for their support, encouragement, and for creating an incredible learning environment.”
