UWTSD Law and Criminology graduate celebrates First-Class Honours as she takes next step towards a career in law
A University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) graduate is continuing her journey towards becoming a solicitor after achieving a First-Class Honours degree in Law with Criminology.
Chloe Foulis, 22, from Belfast, graduated this summer from UWTSD’s SA1 Swansea Waterfront campus. Having always wanted to qualify as a solicitor, she is now continuing her studies with a master’s degree in Law and Legal Practice.
During her degree, Chloe developed a strong interest in legal research and criminological theory, while also gaining confidence through presentations, group work, and discussions with fellow students.
“University has been incredibly rewarding, both academically and personally. It has given me a strong academic foundation, but it has also helped me develop skills that I know I will need throughout my career, particularly organisation, time management, and communication,” said Chloe.
Alongside her studies, Chloe gained valuable practical experience through work experience with Women’s Aid and within a solicitors’ firm. These experiences gave her an insight into how legal knowledge is applied in real-life situations and reinforced the importance of empathy, professionalism, and effective communication.
Her experience with Women’s Aid was particularly meaningful, giving her a greater understanding of the wider social impact legal professionals can have on individuals and communities.
Chloe’s achievements were also recognised with a Worshipful Livery Company of Wales Award, which she says was a significant personal achievement and gave her further confidence in pursuing a career in law.
“One of the biggest challenges I faced throughout university was overcoming self-doubt and learning not to second-guess myself,” she said. “With the encouragement and support of my lecturers, I gradually became more confident in my own abilities. Achieving a First-Class Honours degree and receiving the award made me realise just how much I had achieved.”
Chloe credits the support of her lecturers as an important part of her university experience and would recommend the Law and Criminology degree to anyone considering a career in law or with an interest in criminology.
“The course provides an excellent academic foundation, but what makes it particularly valuable is the support and encouragement from the lecturers. They genuinely guide you and help you reach your potential.”
With her master’s degree now underway, Chloe is focused on building on the knowledge and experience she gained at UWTSD as she works towards qualifying as a solicitor.
“My university experience, practical work experience and academic achievements have strengthened my determination to pursue a career as a solicitor. I’m excited to continue developing my knowledge, skills, and confidence as I take the next step towards achieving that ambition.”
