UWTSD Netball Team Celebrates Successful Season and Strong Team Development.
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s (UWTSD) Netball Team is celebrating a successful and progressive season, marked by strong performances, individual achievements, and impressive team development following promotion to a higher division.
Competing in a more challenging league this season, the squad welcomed several new players and quickly established a strong team culture both on and off the court. Through dedication, teamwork, and consistent training, the team developed strong connections that translated into excellent performances throughout the campaign.
Despite the increased level of competition, the players demonstrated resilience and determination in every fixture, ensuring they remained competitive throughout the season. Their hard work was rewarded with an impressive third-place finish in Western Division 5, reflecting the squad’s commitment and ability to perform under pressure.
Training attendance remained consistently high throughout the year, with players showing significant improvement week by week. The introduction of additional strength and conditioning sessions, led by Sport & Exercise Science student coach Steven Tonkiss, further enhanced the team’s performance and overall fitness levels.
The season also saw a number of notable individual achievements. Emily Hopkins has been selected to trial for the Welsh Universities Netball Team, which is a fantastic opportunity and recognition of her dedication and ability.
Several players were recognised for their outstanding performances by receiving Player of the Match awards throughout the season, including Maddie Williams, Leah Rowlands, Lara Curtis, Lauren Evans, and Bria Rees. Special recognition also goes to Medi Thomas, who was voted by opposing teams as the most challenging player to compete against during the season.
Reflecting on the team’s achievements, Hannah Poole, Head of Netball at UWTSD, said:
“The girls have worked exceptionally hard all year, supporting each other and improving every week. Finishing third is a great achievement, especially considering the challenges we faced, and I’m really proud of the way they came together as a team.”
