The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) is proud to have served as one of the official host venues for the WorldSkills UK National Finals 2025 – and is delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its competitors, who secured national recognition at this year’s event.

UWTSD’s Rehan Joseph won Bronze in the Network Infrastructure Technician category, while Tamzin Brewer earned a Highly Commended award in CNC Milling, further showcasing the University’s growing reputation for technical excellence.

Their success was revealed at an awards ceremony held at the ICC Wales on Friday 28 November, following two days of high-intensity competition involving over 400 finalists across more than 40 skills categories. Competitors demonstrated world-class proficiency in disciplines ranging from digital technologies and advanced engineering to hospitality, creative arts, and health sciences.

Dr Mark Cocks, Dean of the Wales Institute of Science and Art, said: “This is a proud moment for UWTSD. To see our students recognised at national level reflects their talent, hard work, and the dedication of our academic and support teams. Hosting the national finals further highlights our commitment not just to academic excellence, but to driving skills development across the UK.”

Ben Blackledge, Chief Executive of WorldSkills UK, said: “Congratulations to all those who participated in the WorldSkills UK national competitions. They have demonstrated their skills at the highest level and these exceptional young people represent the future of our economy. Our competitions, based on global standards, play a vital role in developing the skills that will drive investment, create jobs, and fuel economic growth.”

As a proud host venue for this year’s national finals, UWTSD welcomed competitors, industry experts, schools, and visitors from across the UK to its Swansea Waterfront campus. The University supported the delivery of industry-relevant challenges and showcased its commitment to leading skills education across Wales and beyond.

This year’s competition follows the earlier announcement that UWTSD students Luke Redmore (Software Engineering) and Rehan Joseph (Computer Networks and Cyber Security), along with Tamzin Brewer and Lloyd Thomas in CNC disciplines, had been selected as finalists – a significant achievement that demonstrated both personal commitment and the strength of UWTSD’s teaching and training environment.

Luke and Rehan’s preparation was supported by the expertise and dedication of Senior Lecturer and Training Manager Nitheesh Kaliyamurthy, WorldSkills UK expert for the Network Systems Administrator skill, and lecturer Munyaradzi Murira, whose combined training, guidance, and encouragement played a key role in readying both for competition at the highest level.
