Researchers and innovators at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Assistive Technologies Innovation Centre (ATiC) have collaborated with VRGO Ltd and Swansea University on the development of Fyt 02, a new wellness device designed to tackle the growing health impact of sedentary lifestyles.

Launched on Kickstarter on 2 June 2026, Fyt 02 transforms any chair into a “passive wellness coach” using patented pressure sensors and motion tracking technology to encourage healthier movement and posture throughout the working day.

Developed through a collaboration between VRGO Ltd, UWTSD and Swansea University, the device combines behavioural science, sensor technology and user-focused design to help combat the physical and mental health impacts linked to prolonged sitting.

Dr. Fatma Layas, ATiC Innovation Fellow at UWTSD’s Assistive Technologies Innovation Centre (ATiC) said: “ATiC’s involvement has ensured that the development of Fyt is grounded in a rigorous user-centred design process. From the earliest stages of understanding user needs through to the evaluation of both the hardware and software, our work has helped shape a solution that is intuitive, effective and closely aligned with real-world workplace behaviours.”

Joe Ryan, Founder and CEO of VRGO Ltd, said: “Standing desks and wearables treat sitting as the enemy. We believe sitting itself can become healthy. Fyt turns passive time at your desk into active, measurable wellness, effortlessly. Your chair becomes your coach.”

Fyt 02 monitors posture, movement and pressure in real time, providing gentle haptic prompts alongside a personalised “Sitness Score” through its companion app. The system also includes chair-based exercises and weight trend tracking, while maintaining a privacy-first design.

The device launched on Kickstarter on 2 June 2026.
