Sarah's BA in Surface Pattern and Textiles Experience
What was your favourite thing about the Swansea campus?
My favourite thing about Swansea College of Art is the sense of community and the close-knit atmosphere. I really enjoy studying in a smaller creative environment, as it feels much more personal and supportive.
Why did you choose UWTSD?
I chose UWTSD because the Surface Pattern and Textiles course felt varied and open creatively. I loved that there were so many different directions to explore, from traditional processes through to digital design, and it immediately stood out to me for its encouraging and hands-on approach to learning.
What did you enjoy outside your studies?
Outside of university, I enjoy a lot of different hobbies and spend a lot of time outdoors. I particularly enjoy gardening, foraging and hiking, which often inspire my creative work. I also enjoy travelling, photography, and exploring different arts and crafts.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
After graduating, I hope to continue building a career within the creative industry, ideally working as a freelance designer. I’d love to continue developing my own creative practice while building industry connections and gaining further experience.
What was your favourite thing about your course?
One of my favourite things about the course has been how much it encourages experimentation and individuality. It’s given me the freedom to explore different creative processes, develop my own visual style and gain valuable industry experience through live briefs and internships. I’ve also loved being surrounded by such a talented group of students and staff, who have contributed to such a positive and inspiring creative environment.
Would you recommend UWTSD and why?
I would definitely recommend UWTSD because the course has helped me grow in confidence, both creatively and professionally. I’ve been able to build practical skills, learn more about the design industry and push my work in new directions. The support from tutors and the chance to work on real briefs has made the experience really worthwhile.
