Bible and Theology (Part-time) (BA Hons)

Distance Learning
6 Years Part-time
96 - 112 UCAS Points

The part-time BA (Hons) Bible and Theology course at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David offers you the chance to explore the beliefs and traditions of two major world religions: Judaism and Christianity.

This flexible programme is designed for those who want to deepen their understanding of religious thought and its impact on society while balancing other commitments. Over the duration of the course, you will study the sacred texts, histories, and traditions that have shaped these faiths and the ways they continue to influence modern life.

Throughout the course, you will delve into the spiritual and written traditions of the Bible, examining the development of key texts and their meanings. By exploring religious practices and beliefs, you will learn how these traditions have shaped not only individual faith but also entire cultures and societies. You will have the chance to study how different Christian denominations interpret their sacred texts and express their faith through worship and practice. As part of the course, you will also investigate how religious identity is formed and how religion influences ethical, social, and political debates in today’s world.

A key element of this degree is learning how to think critically and analyse religious texts and ideas. You will be introduced to various methods and frameworks to help you engage with theological debates in an informed and thoughtful way. By studying contemporary issues, such as the relationship between religion and ethics, you will gain insight into how religious thought influences moral decision-making in areas such as justice, peace, and human rights.

You will learn from experienced lecturers who are active researchers in the field of religion and theology. Their knowledge and enthusiasm will guide you as you explore challenging ideas and develop your own critical and creative thinking. This course is designed to encourage independent learning, giving you the freedom to reflect on your studies and develop your personal insights into the subjects you find most compelling.

By the end of the degree, you will have gained a rich understanding of the role religion plays in shaping the world around us. The skills you develop—such as critical thinking, textual analysis, and ethical reasoning—will be valuable in many different careers, including religious leadership, education, social work, and roles that require an understanding of cultural and ethical issues.

This part-time course is ideal for those who want to study Bible and theology at their own pace while exploring how faith and society intersect in today’s world.

  • 56-72 UCAS Tariff Points

The UCAS tariff score is applicable to you if you have recently studied a qualification that has a UCAS tariff equivalence. UCAS provides a tariff calculator for you to work out what your qualification is worth within the UCAS tariff.

We are interested in creative people who demonstrate a strong commitment to art and/or design and, therefore, we welcome applications from individuals from a wide range of backgrounds.

We arrange interviews for all applicants to assess suitability for the chosen course. Your skills, achievements and life experience will be considered, as well as your portfolio of work.

    Alternative entry routes

If this course interests you, but you don’t have the entry requirements to join our bachelor’s degree you could consider:

    • ‘with Foundation Year’. This route is designed to give you extra support as it provides you with an additional year (full-time) of supported study.

Once you successfully complete your Foundation Year studies, you will automatically advance onto the main degree.

    • Certificate in Higher Education (CertHE). This is a one-year course and is equivalent to the first year of the three year, full-time bachelor’s degree.

Once you have successfully completed your CertHE studies, you will be eligible to progress for the remaining two years of the bachelor’s degree.

These are ideal routes if you are returning to study after a gap, or if you have not previously studied this subject, or if you did not achieve the grades you need for a place on this degree.

    Admissions Advice and Support

We may make you a lower offer based on a range of factors, such as your background, experiences and individual circumstances. This is known as ‘Contextual Admissions’. For specific advice and support you can contact our enquiries team for more information about entry requirements.

    English language requirements

If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests. We also accept other English language tests

Visit the International Applications section of our website to find out more about our English Language Requirements and pre-sessional English Language Courses.

    Visa and funding requirements

If you are not from the UK and you do not already have residency here, you may need to apply for a visa.

For courses of more than six months’ duration you will require a Student visa.

International students who require a Student visa should apply for our full-time courses as these qualify for Student visa sponsorship.

    Practical tasks
    Essays

Students learn how to present a balanced, evidenced argument through their formal written work, as well as via individual and group presentations.

Within the final year, students will design and conduct their own independent project in a specialist area of their choice.

Bible and Theology (Full-time) (GradDip)

Distance Learning
1 Year Full-time
2:2 honours degree

The Graduate Diploma in Bible and Theology at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David offers an in-depth exploration of the key beliefs and traditions that have shaped both Judaism and Christianity. This course is ideal for those looking to study the Bible, its rich history, and how religious thought has developed over time, in a flexible and focused way.

Throughout the programme, you will examine sacred texts from both faiths, learning how they have evolved and influenced religious beliefs and practices. You will also explore different Christian denominations and how their approaches to worship and tradition differ. By understanding how these religious practices have shaped cultures and societies, you will see how they continue to play a role in today’s world.

The course encourages you to think critically about theology. You will learn how to use different methods to study religious texts and ideas in a structured way. This will help you understand how theology and ethics are linked, and how religious thinking influences modern debates on moral issues such as justice, equality, and human rights.

You will be supported by experienced lecturers who are active researchers in the field of religion and theology. Their expertise will guide your studies and encourage you to develop your own ideas. The course will help you build critical thinking skills and challenge you to reflect on how religious beliefs fit into wider social, political, and ethical discussions.

By the end of the programme, you will have gained a deep understanding of the Bible, religious traditions, and their place in the world today. The skills you develop will be useful in a range of careers, including religious leadership, teaching, or any role that requires strong critical thinking and an understanding of ethical issues. This GradDip offers a pathway to further study or new professional opportunities.

Drwy astudio’r pynciau hyn, byddwch yn ymuno â sgyrsiau academaidd sy’n edrych ar sut mae meddwl crefyddol yn gysylltiedig â materion cyfoes.

Drwy gydol eich astudiaethau, cewch eich arwain gan ddarlithwyr profiadol sy’n ymchwilwyr gweithredol ym maes diwinyddiaeth. Bydd eu harbenigedd yn eich helpu i herio’ch hun i feddwl yn annibynnol ac yn greadigol. Fe’ch anogir i ddatblygu eich syniadau eich hun, cwestiynu damcaniaethau presennol, ac adfyfyrio ar sut mae’r hyn rydych chi’n ei ddysgu’n berthnasol i’ch profiadau a’ch credoau eich hun.

Bible and Theology (Part-time) (GradDip)

Distance Learning
2 Years Part-time
2:2 honours degree

The Graduate Diploma (GradDip) in Bible and Theology at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David offers a deep dive into the religious beliefs, texts, and traditions of both Judaism and Christianity. This programme is perfect if you’re looking to explore the key ideas that have shaped these two faiths and understand their continued influence on the world today. Whether you already have some background in theology or are looking for a fresh start in religious studies, this course provides a comprehensive look at the Bible and its wider religious context.

As you work through the course, you will study how sacred texts like the Bible have developed over time and how these writings have shaped religious practices and beliefs. You will explore various Christian denominations, learning how their beliefs and practices differ. By looking closely at both Judaism and Christianity, you will see how these faiths fit into today’s social, political, and ethical debates, giving you a clearer view of their relevance in the modern world.

Critical thinking and analysis are at the heart of this course. You will be introduced to different methods for interpreting biblical texts and theological ideas. This will help you engage with important topics like the connection between theology and ethics, and how religious beliefs shape discussions about moral issues in areas such as justice, human rights, and equality. By studying these topics, you will join academic conversations that look at how religious thought is linked to contemporary issues.

Throughout your studies, you will be guided by experienced lecturers who are active researchers in the field of theology. Their expertise will help challenge you to think independently and creatively. You will be encouraged to develop your own ideas, question existing theories, and reflect on how what you learn relates to your own experiences and beliefs.

By the end of the course, you will have developed a solid understanding of both biblical studies and theology, as well as critical skills that are useful in a wide range of careers. Whether you’re considering further academic study, a role in religious leadership, or any job where critical thinking and an understanding of cultural and ethical issues are important, this programme will prepare you for the next step in your journey.
