Seryddiaeth Ddiwylliannol ac Astroleg (Llawn amser) (PGDip)

Dysgu o Bell
1 Blynedd Llawn Amser
Gradd anrhydedd 2:2  neu gyfwerth a gydnabyddir gan PCYDDS

Mae’r Diploma Ôl-raddedig mewn Seryddiaeth a Astroleg Ddiwylliannol yn gwrs dysgu o bell amser llawn sy’n archwilio sut mae dynoliaeth wedi deall a chysylltu â’r cosmos trwy gydol hanes. Mae’r cwrs hwn, sy’n cael ei redeg gan Ganolfan Sophia ar gyfer Astudio Cosmoleg mewn Diwylliant, yn ymchwilio i sut mae ein perthynas â’r awyr, y sêr a’r planedau wedi llunio diwylliant, systemau cred a strwythurau cymdeithasol ar draws amser a lle.

Mae’r rhaglen hon yn cynnig persbectif unigryw ar ein lle yn y bydysawd drwy archwilio’r ffyrdd y mae pobl wedi edrych i’r nefoedd am ystyr ac arweiniad. O wareiddiadau hynafol hyd heddiw, mae bodau dynol wedi troi i’r awyr am atebion, gan lunio celf, crefydd, gwleidyddiaeth a phensaernïaeth yn y broses. Mae’r cwrs yn cyfuno disgyblaethau fel hanes, archaeoleg, anthropoleg ac astudiaethau crefyddol i archwilio’r cysylltiadau dwfn hyn.

Mae Seryddiaeth ac Astroleg Ddiwylliannol yn archwilio seryddiaeth, yr astudiaeth wyddonol o’r sêr a’r planedau, ac astroleg, yr arfer o ddehongli symudiadau nefol a’u heffeithiau ar fywydau pobl. Er bod seryddiaeth yn ymwneud â’r bydysawd ffisegol, mae astroleg yn archwilio sut mae’r cyrff nefol hynny yn dylanwadu ar ddiwylliant, ysbrydolrwydd, a phrofiad personol. Trwy ddull amlddisgyblaethol, bydd myfyrwyr yn ymchwilio i sut mae pobl mewn diwylliannau gwahanol wedi deall a defnyddio’r cysyniadau hyn, o ddefodau crefyddol hynafol i arferion astrolegol cyfoes.

Mae rhan sylweddol o’r rhaglen yn cynnwys astudio archaeoseryddiaeth - sut mae aliniadau wybrennol yn cael eu hadlewyrchu mewn pensaernïaeth hynafol a modern. Byddwch hefyd yn edrych ar effaith ehangach y cosmos ar gelf, crefydd, a seicoleg ddynol, yn ogystal â sut mae astroleg a chosmoleg wedi dylanwadu ar gymdeithasau dros amser. Drwy gydol y cwrs, byddwch yn cael eich annog i feddwl yn feirniadol am sut mae’r credoau hyn yn cydblethu â gwyddoniaeth a diwylliant.

Mae ymgysylltu ymarferol yn elfen allweddol o’r diploma hwn. Fel myfyriwr, byddwch yn cadw dyddiadur awyr, yn cofnodi eich arsylwadau, ac yn archwilio sut mae diwylliannau gwahanol wedi dehongli’r sêr. Byddwch hefyd yn dysgu sut i ddadansoddi aliniadau wybrennol mewn safleoedd archeolegol. Mae’r rhaglen wedi’i chynllunio i gynnig dealltwriaeth ddofn i gysylltiad dynoliaeth â’r cosmos, gan ei gwneud yn ddewis cyffrous i unrhyw un sydd â diddordeb yn effaith ddiwylliannol a hanesyddol seryddiaeth ac astroleg.

Mae’r diploma hwn yn darparu archwiliad cyfoethog ac ysgogol yn ddeallusol o’r berthynas rhwng yr awyr a diwylliant dynol, sy’n berffaith i’r rhai sy’n chwilfrydig am sut mae ein barn ar y sêr wedi llunio cymdeithasau, credoau ac arferion drwy gydol hanes.

Mae dewis ehangach o deitlau ar gyfer traethodau hirach. Mewn rhai modiwlau, bydd y teitl a’r pwnc yn cael eu trafod gyda thiwtor y cwrs.

Yna dychwelir pob darn o waith gyda sylwadau gan naill ai un neu ddau o diwtoriaid, a chaiff y myfyrwyr gyfle i gael tiwtorial dros Skype er mwyn trafod y sylwadau.

  • Nid oes unrhyw gostau ychwanegol ffurfiol. Fodd bynnag, bydd angen gwe-gamera i gymryd rhan mewn dosbarthiadau ar-lein – tua deg punt sterling neu ddeg doler yr UD. Bydd rhai myfyrwyr yn dymuno prynu llyfrau ychwanegol (mae angen rhai), er bydd y rhan fwyaf o ddeunyddiau’r cwrs ar-lein.

  • Efallai eich bod yn gymwys i gael arian i helpu i gefnogi eich astudiaethau.  I ddysgu am ysgoloriaethau, bwrsarïau a chyfleoedd ariannu eraill sydd ar gael, ewch i’n hadran Bwrsarïau ac Ysgoloriaethau.

  • Mae’r rhan fwyaf o’n myfyrwyr yn astudio’r cwrs MA heb unrhyw reswm arall ond oherwydd eu bod wrth eu bodd â’r pwnc. Mae rhai yn mynd ymlaen i astudio ar gyfer PhD, naill ai gyda ni neu mewn prifysgolion eraill.

Mae’r berthynas rhwng pob gwaith academaidd a chyflogaeth anacademaidd bob amser yn seiliedig ar werthfawrogiad darpar gyflogwyr o’r sgiliau cyffredinol sy’n cael eu meithrin wrth astudio ar gyfer MA. Fel arfer, mae’r rhain yn cynnwys meddwl yn feirniadol, sgiliau cyfathrebu, rheoli amser a’r gallu i ymgymryd â phrosiectau annibynnol a’u cwblhau.

Mae’r nodwedd olaf, yn enwedig, yn un sy’n cael ei werthfawrogi gan lawer o gyflogwyr. Mae rhai o’n graddedigion yn parhau ym myd addysg naill ai fel myfyrwyr ymchwil neu fel athrawon: mae un o’n myfyrwyr graddedig yn addysgu ar lefel israddedig tra bod un arall, athrawes ysgol, wedi cael dyrchafiad yn ei swydd a chodiad cyflog ar ôl iddi raddio.

Cultural Astronomy and Astrology (Full-time) (PGDip)

Distance Learning
1 Year Full-time
2:2 honours degree  or UWTSD recognised equivalent

The Postgraduate Diploma in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology is a Full-time distance learning course that explores how humanity has understood and connected with the cosmos throughout history. Run by the Sophia Centre for the Study of Cosmology in Culture, this course delves into how our relationships with the sky, stars, and planets have shaped culture, belief systems, and societal structures across time and place.

This programme offers a unique perspective on our place in the universe by examining the ways people have looked to the heavens for meaning and guidance. From ancient civilisations to the present day, humans have turned to the sky for answers, shaping art, religion, politics, and architecture in the process. The course blends disciplines like history, archaeology, anthropology, and religious studies to explore these deep connections.

Cultural Astronomy and Astrology examines both astronomy, the scientific study of the stars and planets, and astrology, the practice of interpreting celestial movements and their effects on human lives. While astronomy is concerned with the physical universe, astrology explores how those heavenly bodies influence culture, spirituality, and personal experience. Through a multidisciplinary approach, students will investigate how people in different cultures have understood and used these concepts, from ancient religious rituals to contemporary astrological practices.

A significant part of the programme involves the study of archaeoastronomy—how celestial alignments are reflected in architecture, both ancient and modern. You will also look at the broader impact of the cosmos on art, religion, and human psychology, as well as how astrology and cosmology have influenced societies through time. Throughout the course, you will be encouraged to think critically about how these beliefs intersect with science and culture.

Practical engagement is a key element of this diploma. As a student, you will keep a sky journal, record your observations, and explore how different cultures have interpreted the stars. You will also learn how to analyse celestial alignments in archaeological sites. The programme is designed to offer deep insights into humanity’s connection with the cosmos, making it an exciting choice for anyone interested in the cultural and historical impact of astronomy and astrology.

This diploma provides a rich and intellectually stimulating exploration of the relationship between the sky and human culture, perfect for those curious about how our view of the stars has shaped societies, beliefs, and practices throughout history.

  • Each module is assessed by 7,500 words of written work. For example, some modules require one short essay of 1,500 words and a longer one of 6,000 words, normally due in week 10 to 12. In other modules, the first essay may be 3,000 words and the second 4,500 words, for example.

Assessment requirements, lengths and due dates can vary from module to module. The shorter essays may be a critical review of a piece of writing or be picked from a choice of two titles. For longer essays, there is a wider choice of titles. In some modules, the title and subject is negotiated with the course tutor.

Each is then returned with comments from either one or two tutors, and students are offered the chance to have a tutorial via Skype in order to discuss the comments.

  • There are no formal additional costs. However, participation in online classes will require a webcam — about ten pounds sterling or ten US dollars. Some students will wish to purchase extra books (some are required), even though most course materials will be online.

  • You may be eligible for funding to help support your study. To find out about scholarships, bursaries and other funding opportunities that are available, please visit our Bursaries and Scholarships section.

  • Most of our students take the MA as an end in itself because they love the subject. Some go on to study for PhDs, either with us or at other universities.

The relationship between all academic work and non-academic employment is always based on potential employers’ appreciation of the generic skills acquired in MA study. Typically, these include critical thinking, communication skills, time-management and the ability to take on and complete independent projects.

The latter quality is particularly prized by many employers. Some of our graduates stay in education either as research students or as teachers: one graduate is teaching at undergraduate level while another, a school teacher, was awarded a promotion and pay rise on her graduation.

Ni chaiff amser a dreuliwyd yn gweithio fel athro y tu allan i’r DU, neu amser a gymerwyd fel saib yn eich gyrfa, ei gyfrif fel blynyddoedd yn ymarfer.

Oes angen imi feddu ar gontract athro am isafswm cyfnod, e.e. tymor neu flwyddyn academaidd? Beth fydd yn digwydd os bydd fy nghontract yn dod i ben yn ystod y rhaglen?

Ydych, ar yr amod bod cyfanswm eich contractau yn 0.4CALl neu’n uwch, byddwch chi’n gymwys i gyflwyno cais am gyllid

Mae gen i gyflogaeth fel athro mewn nifer o ysgolion ac mae cyfanswm fy nghontractau yn werth mwy na 0.4 CALl. Ydw i’n gymwys am gyllid?

Gallwch, ar yr amod bod cyfanswm eich contractau yn 0.4CALl neu’n uwch, byddwch chi’n gymwys i gyflwyno cais am gyllid.

Rwy’n athro rhan-amser a/neu’n athro cyflenwi. Ga i gyflwyno cais am gyllid?

Cadarnheir cymhwysedd ar ddechrau’r rhaglen. Ar yr adeg honno, bydd yn rhaid i chi feddu ar gontract ar gyfer o leiaf un tymor.

Oes rhaid imi ymrwymo i weithio yng Nghymru ar ôl imi gwblhau’r MA mewn Addysg?

Wrth dderbyn y cyllid hwn, mae gofyn i athrawon barhau i weithio yng Nghymru, yn y system addysg a gynhelir am isafswm o 2 flynedd ar ôl cwblhau’r rhaglen.

Oes gofyniad o ran cyfnod preswylio cyn i’r cwrs ddechrau?

Er mwyn bod yn gymwys am gyllid, rhaid eich bod wedi bod yn preswylio yng Nghymru am 3 blynedd cyn dechrau’r cwrs ac mae’n rhaid ichi aros yng Nghymru am hyd y rhaglen.

Hoffwn i hunan ariannu; faint yw’r ffioedd?

    £6,500

Rydw i wedi astudio ar lefel Meistr o’r blaen. Ydw i’n gymwys am gyllid ar gyfer y rhaglen hon?

Os ydych chi wedi astudio pwnc penodol ar raglen Meistr o’r blaen, rydych yn dal i fod yn gymwys i gyflwyno cais am gyllid (ar yr amod eich bod yn bodloni’r holl feini prawf eraill). Sylwer na fyddwch yn gymwys i gyflwyno cais am gyllid ar gyfer yr MA Cenedlaethol os ydych wedi astudio MEd a ariannwyd o’r blaen.

Roedd fy nghais am gyllid yn aflwyddiannus. Beth yw fy opsiynau?

Os na fydd eich cais am gyllid yn llwyddiannus, gallai fod modd ichi gael lle ar y cwrs o hyd, fel myfyriwr sy’n hunan ariannu.

Roedd fy nghais am gyllid yn aflwyddiannus. Sut ga i apelio yn erbyn y penderfyniad?Dylai ymgeiswyr nad ydynt yn fodlon ar benderfyniad Panel Dyfarnu Cyllid yr MA Cenedlaethol mewn Addysg (Cymru) gysylltu â Chadeirydd y Panel yn y lle cyntaf.

Pwy sy’n penderfynu ar ddyrannu cyllid?

Wrth dderbyn eich cais, bydd y Tîm Derbyn Myfyrwyr yn y sefydliad o’ch dewis yn sicrhau eich bod yn bodloni’r meini prawf cymhwysedd. Yna bydd Panel Dyfarnu Cyllid yr MA Cenedlaethol mewn Addysg (Cymru) yn asesu pob cais cymwys er mwyn pennu’r canlyniad a dyfarnu cyllid i’r rhai sy’n llwyddiannus. Mae’r Panel yn cynnwys cynrychiolwyr o bob prifysgol sy’n bartner, ac mae’n atebol i’r Bwrdd Rheoli Cenedlaethol (sydd ag aelodau o Lywodraeth Cymru), er mwyn sicrhau atebolrwydd a goruchwyliaeth eglur.

Sawl lle a ariennir sydd ar gael?

Mae 500 o leoedd a ariennir ar draws partneriaeth yr MA Cenedlaethol mewn Addysg (Cymru)

Ydw i’n gymwys am fenthyciad myfyriwr?

Os dyfernir cyllid Llywodraeth Cymru ichi ar gyfer yr MA Cenedlaethol mewn Addysg (Cymru), mae’n rhaid ichi beidio â chyflwyno cais am gymorth ariannol i ôl-raddedigion drwy’r Cwmni Benthyciadau Myfyrwyr (SLC) hefyd. Caiff myfyrwyr nad ydynt yn derbyn cyllid Llywodraeth Cymru gyflwyno cais i’r SLC.

Mae meini prawf cymhwysedd y cyllid yn datgan bod yn rhaid imi fod ym mlwyddyn 3 i 6 o ymarfer ar ddechrau’r cwrs. Beth mae hyn yn ei olygu?

Mae hyn yn golygu bod yn rhaid ichi fod ym mlynyddoedd 3 i 6 o’ch gwaith addysgu ar ôl cwblhau eich cyfnod sefydlu fel ANG pan fydd y cwrs i fod i ddechrau (nid pan fyddwch yn cyflwyno cais)

Oes rhaid imi fod yn gofrestredig gyda Chyngor y Gweithlu Addysg?

Oes, er mwyn bod yn gymwys am gyllid mae’n rhaid ichi fod yn gofrestredig gyda Chyngor y Gweithlu Addysg yn y categori athro ysgol. Mae’n rhaid cynnal hyn am hyd y cwrs.

Pam mae’r cyllid ar gael i athrawon sydd ym mlynyddoedd 3 i 6 o ymarfer yn unig?

Ar ôl cwblhau fy nghyfnod sefydlu fel ANG, treuliais gyfnod yn gweithio dramor / cymerais saib yn fy ngyrfa. Ydy hyn yn cyfrif?

Ni chaiff amser a dreuliwyd yn gweithio fel athro y tu allan i’r DU, neu amser a gymerwyd fel saib yn eich gyrfa, ei gyfrif fel blynyddoedd yn ymarfer.

Oes angen imi feddu ar gontract athro am isafswm cyfnod, e.e. tymor neu flwyddyn academaidd? Beth fydd yn digwydd os bydd fy nghontract yn dod i ben yn ystod y rhaglen?

Ydych, ar yr amod bod cyfanswm eich contractau yn 0.4CALl neu’n uwch, byddwch chi’n gymwys i gyflwyno cais am gyllid

Mae gen i gyflogaeth fel athro mewn nifer o ysgolion ac mae cyfanswm fy nghontractau yn werth mwy na 0.4 CALl. Ydw i’n gymwys am gyllid?

Oes rhaid imi ymrwymo i weithio yng Nghymru ar ôl imi gwblhau’r MA mewn Addysg?

Wrth dderbyn y cyllid hwn, mae gofyn i athrawon barhau i weithio yng Nghymru, yn y system addysg a gynhelir am isafswm o 2 flynedd ar ôl cwblhau’r rhaglen.

Oes gofyniad o ran cyfnod preswylio cyn i’r cwrs ddechrau?

Er mwyn bod yn gymwys am gyllid, rhaid eich bod wedi bod yn preswylio yng Nghymru am 3 blynedd cyn dechrau’r cwrs ac mae’n rhaid ichi aros yng Nghymru am hyd y rhaglen.

Hoffwn i hunan ariannu; faint yw’r ffioedd?

    £6,500

Rydw i wedi astudio ar lefel Meistr o’r blaen. Ydw i’n gymwys am gyllid ar gyfer y rhaglen hon?

Os ydych chi wedi astudio pwnc penodol ar raglen Meistr o’r blaen, rydych yn dal i fod yn gymwys i gyflwyno cais am gyllid (ar yr amod eich bod yn bodloni’r holl feini prawf eraill). Sylwer na fyddwch yn gymwys i gyflwyno cais am gyllid ar gyfer yr MA Cenedlaethol os ydych wedi astudio MEd a ariannwyd o’r blaen.

Roedd fy nghais am gyllid yn aflwyddiannus. Beth yw fy opsiynau?

Os na fydd eich cais am gyllid yn llwyddiannus, gallai fod modd ichi gael lle ar y cwrs o hyd, fel myfyriwr sy’n hunan ariannu.

Roedd fy nghais am gyllid yn aflwyddiannus. Sut ga i apelio yn erbyn y penderfyniad?Dylai ymgeiswyr nad ydynt yn fodlon ar benderfyniad Panel Dyfarnu Cyllid yr MA Cenedlaethol mewn Addysg (Cymru) gysylltu â Chadeirydd y Panel yn y lle cyntaf.

Pwy sy’n penderfynu ar ddyrannu cyllid?

Wrth dderbyn eich cais, bydd y Tîm Derbyn Myfyrwyr yn y sefydliad o’ch dewis yn sicrhau eich bod yn bodloni’r meini prawf cymhwysedd. Yna bydd Panel Dyfarnu Cyllid yr MA Cenedlaethol mewn Addysg (Cymru) yn asesu pob cais cymwys er mwyn pennu’r canlyniad a dyfarnu cyllid i’r rhai sy’n llwyddiannus. Mae’r Panel yn cynnwys cynrychiolwyr o bob prifysgol sy’n bartner, ac mae’n atebol i’r Bwrdd Rheoli Cenedlaethol (sydd ag aelodau o Lywodraeth Cymru), er mwyn sicrhau atebolrwydd a goruchwyliaeth eglur.

Sawl lle a ariennir sydd ar gael?

Caiff myfyrwyr nad ydynt yn derbyn cyllid Llywodraeth Cymru gyflwyno cais i’r SLC.
