What you will learn

    Alternative entry routes  

    • Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCert). This is the first part of the full Master’s degree. 

    Once you have successfully completed your PGCert studies, you will be eligible to progress for the remainder of the Master’s degree.  

    These are ideal routes if you are returning to study after a gap, or if you have not previously studied this subject, or if you did not achieve the grades you need for a place on this degree.

    English language requirements  

    If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.0, with not less than 5.5 in each of the sub-tests. We also accept other English language tests.

    Visa and funding requirements  

    If you are not from the UK and you do not already have residency here, you may need to apply for a visa.  

    For courses of more than six months’ duration you will require a Student visa.  

    International students who require a Student visa should apply for our full-time courses as these qualify for Student visa sponsorship.

    Please note students receiving US Federal Aid are only able to apply for in-person, on-campus programmes which will have no elements of online study.  

  • The programme is assessed in a variety of formats including coursework, portfolios and seminars.

    Assessments are linked to industry examples and practical activities, and include evaluation of current leaders.

    Students who undertake the entire MA write a 15,000 word dissertation based on a piece of independent research on a leadership related area chosen by the student in discussion with the module lecturer.  Each student is allocated a supervisor who will guide them through the research and writing process.

  • As an institution, we seek to continually enhance the student experience and as a result, additional costs may be incurred by the student on activities that will add value to their education.  Where possible these costs will be kept to a minimum.

    The University has an excellent online library which enables all students to access a wide range of resources with no extra cost.

  • Some modules in this course are available to study through the medium of Welsh either fully or partially. In all cases students will be able to submit written assessments through the medium of Welsh.  

    If you choose to study your course either fully or partially through the medium of Welsh, you may be eligible to apply for scholarships and bursaries to support you with your studies.

    • An honours degree at 2.2 or above classification in an appropriate discipline. A GPA Score of 2.5 or above.
    • The nature of the programme is such that candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds will be considered.

    Equivalent qualifications

    • Equivalent qualifications will be considered for entry on to the programme. For example, the university would consider a candidate with a good HND, together with at least five years’ relevant experience. The candidate would be expected to provide evidence to support their application.

    Other skills considered

    • Our offers are not solely based on academic results; we will also take your skills, achievement and life experience into consideration.
    • Evidence of personal, professional and educational experience will be sought, to provide indicators of the ability of an individual to satisfy the requirements of the programme.
  • Assessment on the masters’ programme is a mixture of written assessments, examinations and presentations. A typical assessment could be asking you to investigate an industry-based problem and make suggestions for improvement utilising tools and techniques you learnt in a particular module or across the programme.

    The 60-credit Master’s Project module asks you to submit a dissertation or portfolio of up to 15,000 words. It builds on the work and skills you have gained through completing the previous modules in the course.

    You will be supported through your assignments by your course tutors. Further help is available from the Library’s Academic and InfoSkills programme. 

  • It is possible to complete the course without incurring any additional costs, but students should expect to have to pay for costs incurred through project meetings in companies and student visits.

  • The UK has a shortage of engineers; graduates of this programme will be well-placed to succeed in the UK job market.

    This programme equips graduates with a wide range of professional skills and competencies that are transferable within business sectors and from sector to sector. Students develop oral and written skills to enable individuals to grow in confidence through the programme of study.

    Typical career opportunities are shift manager, production supervisor, engineering manager, quality manager, planning and scheduling manager, operations manager/director.

    All our graduates who have studied similar part-time masters’ courses have received promotion while studying, or after completing their studies, which they have attributed to their qualification.

    Younger graduates benefited from enhanced employment prospects and found that they were able to gain employment as a line engineer, quality engineer and supply chain specialist.

What you will learn

At UWTSD, we believe in fostering a supportive and practical learning environment, where you will develop both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for a successful career in people management. Our teaching philosophy encourages critical thinking, hands-on experience, and continuous professional development to ensure that you are ready to make a real impact in your organisation.

Learners will attend workshops over 18 months, to complete the Diploma. On successful completion of the Diploma, candidates will become Associate members of the CIPD. Associate membership is recognised as a professional level of membership and successful candidates are entitled to use the designation AssocCIPD after their name.

Depending on experience and previous qualifications, learners may also be required to complete additional work, as part of the apprenticeship essential skills requirements — this will be explained to you as part of the application process.

During the course you will build your understanding of people management with modules like Organisational Performance and Culture in Practice and Evidence-Based Practice. You’ll develop key skills through Professional Behaviours and Valuing People, and learn to manage Employment Relationships, Talent, and Reward for Performance.   • This qualification is designed for learners aged 18+ who want to learn about people practice or L&D practice. Although there are no formal entry requirements, applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to study at level 5, either by holding formal qualifications, having relevant experience or demonstrating competence in other ways.

    Admissions Advice and Support  

    We may make you a lower offer based on a range of factors, such as your background, experiences and individual circumstances. This is known as ‘Contextual Admissions’. For specific advice and support you can contact our enquiries team for more information about entry requirements.  

    English language requirements  

    If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.0, with not less than 5.5 in each of the sub-tests. We also accept other English language tests.

    Visa and funding requirements  

    If you are not from the UK and you do not already have residency here, you may need to apply for a visa.  

    For courses of more than six months’ duration you will require a Student visa.  

    International students who require a Student visa should apply for our full-time courses as these qualify for Student visa sponsorship.

    Please note students receiving US Federal Aid are only able to apply for in-person, on-campus programmes which will have no elements of online study.  

  • Assessment for the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management is employer-driven and aimed at real scenarios that learners may encounter in their future career. The CIPD will set assignments for all core units. For the other units, the University will devise their own assessments, based on guidance provided by the CIPD. These may include case studies, slide shows, port-folios and other methods of assessment. There will be no exams.

    This qualification is not graded. Learners will receive either a Pass or Fail. All assessment criteria must be met in order to achieve a Pass.

  • This qualification is funded for eligible students. To be considered for the funding, students must apply to Coleg Sir Gar and complete the apprenticeship application process. Full details are available on request.

    Students can opt to enrol on the course without the funding – the current fee is £1700 (2024-2025).

    Additional costs include mandatory CIPD student membership and optional purchase of textbooks. Student Membership of the CIPD costs £109 per year, plus a £40 joining fee (2024-2025).

  • Some modules in this course are available to study through the medium of Welsh either fully or partially. In all cases students will be able to submit written assessments through the medium of Welsh.  

    If you choose to study your course either fully or partially through the medium of Welsh, you may be eligible to apply for scholarships and bursaries to support you with your studies.

  • This programme is ideal for:

    • Aspiring or current managers looking to enhance their leadership capabilities.

  • Certificate in Higher Education in Employability Skills (CertHE). 

    This is a one-year course and is equivalent to the first year of the three year, full-time bachelor’s degree. 

    Once you have successfully completed your CertHE studies, you will be eligible to progress for the remaining two years of the bachelor’s degree.   

  • Assessment methods vary from module to module but you can expect a range of assessments including, coursework, practical work and presentations. Assessments combine academic rigor with authentic “real-world” tasks that demonstrate a students ability to meaningfully apply their knowledge and skills.

  • Extra costs to be borne by the student

    As an institution, we seek to continually enhance the student experience and as a result, additional costs may be incurred by the student on activities that will add value to their education. Where possible these costs will be kept to a minimum with additional activities being optional.

    Field trips

    Field trips will be available for students. Field trips where there is an additional cost, are optional. Costs for the UK and International trips will usually be provided at the beginning of the academic year. Students will be expected to pay four weeks prior to field trips taking place.

  • Our business degrees provide students with a broad range of skills that are sought after by a range of employers. Due to the flexible and broad nature of the programme graduates will be equipped to enter a range of industries and sectors including not of profit, public and private sectors. A number of our graduates have also gone on to kick start their own businesses and are still in touch with the university Enterprise Team.

Wrth wraidd ein cwrs Rheoli Busnes mae ymrwymiad i gyfuno theori academaidd â chymhwysiad ymarferol. Ein nod yw meithrin meddwl beirniadol a datrys problemau ymarferol, gan sicrhau bod myfyrwyr yn ennill y sgiliau angenrheidiol i ffynnu ym myd busnes deinamig.     Llwybrau mynediad amgen  

    Os ydy’r cwrs hwn o ddiddordeb i chi, ond nid yw’r gofynion mynediad gennych i ymuno â’n gradd baglor, gallech ystyried:  

    • ‘gyda Blwyddyn Sylfaen’. Mae’r llwybr hwn wedi’i gynllunio i roi cymorth ychwanegol i chi am ei fod yn rhoi blwyddyn ychwanegol (llawn amser) i chi o astudio wedi’i gefnogi.   

    Unwaith y byddwch chi wedi cwblhau eich astudiaethau Blwyddyn Sylfaen, byddwch yn symud ymlaen yn awtomatig i’r brif radd.  

    • Tystysgrif Addysg Uwch (TystAU). Cwrs un flwyddyn yw hwn ac mae’n gyfwerth â blwyddyn gyntaf y radd baglor tair blynedd, llawn amser.  

     Unwaith y byddwch wedi cwblhau eich astudiaethau TystAU, byddwch yn gymwys i symud ymlaen i’r ddwy flynedd sy’n weddill o’r radd baglor.  

    Mae’r rhain yn llwybrau delfrydol os ydych yn dychwelyd i astudio ar ôl seibiant, neu os nad ydych wedi astudio’r pwnc hwn o’r blaen, neu os na wnaethoch chi gyflawni’r graddau sydd eu hangen i gael lle ar y radd hon.

    Os nad Saesneg yw eich iaith gyntaf, neu os nad ydych wedi astudio drwy gyfrwng y Saesneg o’r blaen, mae ein gofyniad arferol yn gyfwerth â sgôr o 6.0 y System Brofi Iaith Saesneg Rhyngwladol (Prawf Academaidd IELTS), heb gael llai na 5.5 ym mhob un o’r is-brofion. Rydym hefyd yn derbyn profion iaith Saesneg eraill.
