Explore the town

Lampeter offers a mix of independent shops, restaurants and cultural attractions. Browse local crafts and produce at the farmers’ market, or visit the Welsh Quilt Centre, which showcases a world-famous collection of Welsh quilts in the town’s historic Town Hall.

Its pubs and restaurants serve a variety of local produce, ensuring there is something for every taste. Food lovers will enjoy the town’s excellent restaurants, from Granny’s Kitchen and The Mustard Seed to the vegetarian café at Mulberry Bush Wholefoods, a local establishment since 1974.

Lampeter is surrounded by some of Wales’ most stunning landscapes.

Walk to Falcondale Lake, explore the Iron Age settlement of Allt-Goch Castle, or venture to one of the many nearby hillforts. Long Wood Community Woodland consists of 4km of footpaths and 10km of bridlepaths, providing an excellent location for nature walks and horse riding.

The region is perfect for outdoor activities, including hiking in the Brycheiniog National Park and Cambrian Mountains, and surfing and coasteering on the west coast. Cardigan Bay is just a short drive away, home to some of Wales’ most beautiful beaches.

History on the doorstep

The first known rugby match ever played in Wales took place at Lampeter in 1866. Its 150th anniversary was celebrated in 2016 and commemorated with a sculpture on campus.

Visit the Dolaucothi Gold Mines, a National Trust site that offers a glimpse into the history of Welsh Roman gold mining. Explore Strata Florida Abbey, where archaeological excavations reveal fascinating insights into Wales’ past. Tour Dinefwr Castle and Cilgerran Castle, both of which offer stunning views and a rich history.

Dylan Thomas Summer Schools

The Dylan Thomas International Summer School is a 12-day accredited writing course at Lampeter campus. The programme, founded by renowned Welsh poet and playwright Menna Elfyn in 2014, benefits from small class sizes.
