Treuliodd Dr Wainwright 14 mlynedd fel athro cynradd, gan gynnwys 5 mlynedd fel pennaeth uned yn cefnogi plant â niwroamrywiaeth ac ystod o anghenion cymhleth. Roedd hi’n gynghorydd cyswllt addysg gorfforol gynradd yr Awdurdod Lleol ac yn ymgynghorydd ar gyfer Chwaraeon Cymru ar y rhaglenni addysg gorfforol a chwaraeon ysgol.   Symudodd Dr Wainwright o addysgu i weithio ym maes addysg athrawon ac yna i arwain tîm o ymchwilwyr sy’n canolbwyntio ar gymhwyso ymchwil i effeithio ar arfer. Dr Wainwright oedd yr ymgynghorydd arweiniol ar gyfer cynhwysiant mewn Addysg Gorfforol a Chwaraeon Ysgol (PESS) a ariennir gan Lywodraeth Cymru ac ysgrifennodd raglen hyfforddi genedlaethol er mwyn cefnogi athrawon i ddatblygu strategaethau a rhaglenni cwricwlwm i gefnogi pob disgybl yn eu haddysg gorfforol ysgol. Dr Wainwright oedd arweinydd strategol rhanbarthol y Rhaglen Llythrennedd Corfforol i Ysgolion (PLPS) a ariennir gan Lywodraeth Cymru a chadeirydd grŵp ymchwil PLPS.

Profiad Proffesiynol a/neu Ymchwil

PhD Dr Wainwright oedd y cyntaf yn fyd-eang ym maes Llythrennedd Corfforol ac arweiniodd at sefydlu Academi Iechyd a Llythrennedd Corfforol Cymru yn PCYDDS. Archwiliodd ei hymchwil effaith cwricwlwm Cymraeg sy'n seiliedig ar chwarae ar lythrennedd corfforol plant ac arweiniodd canfyddiadau'r astudiaeth hon at ddatblygu rhaglenni datblygiad proffesiynol SKIP-Cymru a gydnabyddir yn rhyngwladol ar gyfer athrawon, cynorthwywyr addysgu, staff cyn-ysgol ac ymarferwyr iechyd. Yn ogystal, mae gwaith SKIP-Cymru wedi bod yn sail i ddatblygiad cwrs Sylfeini Adeiladu ar gyfer Chwaraeon Achrededig CIMSPA, rhaglen The Footie Families a'r ap MiniMovers ar gyfer rhieni. Mae ymchwil ym mhob cam o ddatblygiad y gwaith hwn wedi arwain at ystod o gyhoeddiadau, darlithoedd cynhadledd ryngwladol, a chyflwyniadau ym meysydd llythrennedd corfforol, addysg gorfforol, addysg plentyndod cynnar, chwaraeon ac iechyd.
