Mae BA (Anrh) Plentyndod, Addysg a Chymdeithas yn radd ryngddisgyblaethol arloesol sy’n dwyn ynghyd astudiaethau plentyndod cynnar, addysg a chymdeithaseg i archwilio sut mae plant a phobl ifanc yn datblygu, yn dysgu ac yn profi’r byd o’u cwmpas. Dyma’r cwrs cyntaf o’i fath yng Nghymru i gyfuno’r meysydd hyn mewn un rhaglen, gan gynnig dealltwriaeth eang ond beirniadol o blentyndod o fewn cymdeithas gyfoes.  

Byddwch yn archwilio sut mae systemau addysgol, teuluoedd, cymunedau a strwythurau cymdeithasol ehangach yn dylanwadu ar fywydau a chyfleoedd bywyd plant. Gan dynnu ar theori, ymchwil ac ymarfer proffesiynol, mae’r cwrs yn eich galluogi i archwilio materion fel cynhwysiant, cyfiawnder cymdeithasol, hawliau plant, lles, amlieithrwydd a chynaliadwyedd. Byddwch yn ystyried sut mae polisi ac ymarfer yn siapio profiadau addysgol o’r blynyddoedd cynnar hyd at oedolion, a sut y gall ymarferwyr ymateb yn foesegol ac yn greadigol i anghenion amrywiol.  

Trwy gydol y radd, byddwch yn datblygu sylfaen gadarn mewn datblygiad dynol, diogelu, ymarfer cynhwysol a hunaniaeth broffesiynol. Wrth i chi symud ymlaen, byddwch yn dyfnhau eich dealltwriaeth o ymchwil, arweinyddiaeth a rôl technoleg ac amgylcheddau dysgu wrth gefnogi ymgysylltu a chyflawniad. Yn eich blwyddyn olaf, byddwch yn ymgymryd â phrosiect ymchwil annibynnol, sy’n eich galluogi i ymchwilio i faes o ddiddordeb personol a phroffesiynol yn fanwl.

Beth fyddwch chi'n ei ddysgu

Byddwch yn archwilio datblygiad dynol, lles a hawliau plant, ochr yn ochr â’r ffactorau cymdeithasol a diwylliannol sy’n dylanwadu ar ddysgu a chyfleoedd. Mae’r cwrs yn datblygu eich dealltwriaeth o addysg gynhwysol, diogelu ac ymarfer moesegol, gan eich arfogi i weithio’n hyderus gyda phlant, teuluoedd a chymunedau amrywiol.  

Wrth i chi symud ymlaen, byddwch yn ymgysylltu â dulliau ymchwil, arweinyddiaeth a gwaith tîm, ac yn archwilio sut y gall amgylcheddau dysgu a thechnolegau digidol wella cyfranogiad a chyflawniad. Bywyd ar gampws Caerfyrddin

Gwybodaeth allweddol

  • Under 21 - 96-112 UCAS tariff points 

    Over 21 - Early Years encourages and values applications from students who are returning to education, as they will have experiences and life skills that could support their entry onto the degree.

    Don’t quite meet the entry requirements for the BA? You can begin with the CertHE Childhood, Education and Society, which delivers Level 4 (the first year) of the degree. This is an ideal route if you have lower UCAS tariff points, allowing you to build your academic skills and knowledge before progressing onto the full BA, subject to successful completion of the first year.

    Applicants may be required to provide a satisfactory enhanced disclosure document from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

    • We may make you a lower offer based on a range of factors, such as your background, experiences and individual circumstances. This is known as ‘Contextual Admissions’.

    If your qualification doesn’t have a UCAS tariff equivalence, you don’t have traditional entry qualifications or you have accredited prior learning, please contact our enquiries team as we base decisions on our own assessment of qualifications, knowledge and previous work experience.

  • All our programmes are assessed by 100% course work. There are no exams.

    We have found that using a varied range of assessment methods increases employability skills.

    Employers seek graduates who are problem-solvers and who have a range of transferable skills. Assessments give opportunities to develop skills such as the ability to work in a team, have effective oral and written communication while using a range of information sharing methods, including briefing papers, academic posters, group debates and professional discussions.

    There are also opportunities for practical work experiences, supporting employability, professional development and careers.

  • Study through the medium of Welsh or Bilingually 

    UWTSD prides itself on being a bilingual University and some modules in this course are available to study through the medium of Welsh either fully or partially. In all cases students will be able to submit written assessments through the medium of Welsh.   

    If you choose to study your course either fully or partially through the medium of Welsh, you may be eligible to apply for scholarships and bursaries to support you with your studies.  

    The availability of Welsh medium modules is reviewed regularly and may vary each year depending on staffing, research interests, timetabling, student demand, and minimum enrolment numbers, so specific modules cannot always be guaranteed, get in touch to discuss more.

Childhood, Education and Society (BA Hons)

BA (Hons) Childhood, Education and Society is an innovative interdisciplinary degree that brings together early childhood studies, education and sociology to explore how children and young people develop, learn and experience the world around them. It is the first course of its kind in Wales to combine these fields in a single programme, offering a broad yet critically informed understanding of childhood within contemporary society. 

You will examine how educational systems, families, communities and wider social structures influence children’s lives and life chances. Drawing on theory, research and professional practice, the course enables you to explore issues such as inclusion, social justice, children’s rights, wellbeing, multilingualism and sustainability. You will consider how policy and practice shape educational experiences from the early years through to adulthood, and how practitioners can respond ethically and creatively to diverse needs. 

Throughout the degree, you will develop a strong foundation in human development, safeguarding, inclusive practice and professional identity. As you progress, you will deepen your understanding of research, leadership and the role of technology and learning environments in supporting engagement and achievement. In your final year, you will undertake an independent research project, allowing you to investigate an area of personal and professional interest in depth. 

Learning is enriched through access to specialist resources and immersive learning spaces, including virtual reality technology, enabling you to explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning. You will also have the opportunity to undertake a relevant placement and may choose to study abroad for a semester through international mobility. 

Graduates are well prepared for careers in education, early years settings, community and youth work, local government, social care and the voluntary sector. The degree also provides a strong foundation for postgraduate study, including teacher training, social work and further research.

    Over 21 - Early Years encourages and values applications from students who are returning to education, as they will have experiences and life skills that could support their entry onto the degree.

    Don’t quite meet the entry requirements for the BA? You can begin with the CertHE Childhood, Education and Society, which delivers Level 4 (the first year) of the degree. This is an ideal route if you have lower UCAS tariff points, allowing you to build your academic skills and knowledge before progressing onto the full BA, subject to successful completion of the first year.

    Applicants may be required to provide a satisfactory enhanced disclosure document from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

BA (Hons) Childhood, Education and Society: Additional Learning Needs is a distinctive interdisciplinary degree that combines early childhood studies, education and sociology with a focused specialism in Additional Learning Needs. It offers a comprehensive understanding of how children and young people develop and learn, while placing inclusion and equitable practice at the heart of the curriculum. 

You will explore how social, cultural and political contexts shape educational experiences and outcomes, with particular attention to the rights, identities and voices of learners with additional needs. Drawing on current legislation, research and professional frameworks, the programme develops your knowledge of inclusive pedagogy, partnership working and leadership in diverse settings. 

From your first year, you will build a strong foundation in human development, wellbeing, safeguarding and professional identity. As you progress, you will deepen your expertise in areas such as specific learning differences, neurodivergence and collaborative approaches to supporting learners with ALN. You will examine how educators, families and multi agency teams can work together to remove barriers to participation and achievement. 

The course also develops your understanding of research methods, enabling you to engage critically with evidence and apply it to practice. In your final year, you will undertake an extended independent research project with a strong ALN focus, demonstrating your ability to investigate complex issues and contribute to inclusive practice. 

Learning is enhanced through specialist resources and innovative technologies, including immersive virtual reality facilities that support experiential and reflective learning. You will have opportunities to undertake a relevant placement to strengthen your practical experience and professional networks, and you may also choose to study abroad for a semester. 

Graduates are well placed for roles in schools, early years settings, specialist provision, local authorities and community services. The degree also provides a strong pathway into postgraduate study, including teacher training, ALN coordination, social work and research focused on inclusion and equity.

In your Certificate of Higher Education, you will explore the foundations of human development and wellbeing, children’s rights, and inclusive learning strategies. You will also develop key academic and professional skills, engage with creative pedagogies, and understand safeguarding principles and additional learning needs. These modules prepare you for reflective, inclusive, and ethical practice in early years and educational settings. If you complete the Certificate successfully you may also have the option of progressing on to the BA Childhood, Education and Society or BA Childhood, Education and Society: Additional Learning Needs (ALN) on successful completion of this programme.

The Certificate of Higher Education in Childhood, Education and Society provides a strong foundation in understanding how children develop, learn and experience the social world. Drawing on early childhood studies, education and sociology, the course introduces key concepts that underpin inclusive and ethical practice in a range of educational and community contexts.

You will explore human development and wellbeing, children’s rights, safeguarding and additional learning needs, alongside the social factors that influence educational opportunity and outcomes. The programme encourages critical thinking about how families, communities and policy shape childhood experiences, and how practitioners can respond creatively and responsibly.
